Temptation & Holiness
From the Garden to Glorification
Since the fall of man allowed sin to enter the world we as man have had to deal with it 's never ending sting on our search to return, not only to the image of God, but the close intimate relationship sacrificed in the garden. Just as John the Baptist prepared the people to receive the coming Messiah, so to temptation prepares the heart to receive sin. While temptation is not sin and likewise sin is not temptation giving into to any one (sin or temptation) may hold the same consequence (death), particularly apart from the grace of God.
The New Testament word for temptation is πειρασμός (peirasmos :pi-ras-mos) and it is quite literally simply a test; but like any test it comes in various forms for various purposes, and produces various outcomes. It appears 21 times in the New Testament and is translated as a temptation, test, or trial. The differences in the way the word is translated speaks to the nuances they characterize the "nature" of the temptation or test, buddy temptation is always simply a test.
We traditionally have a very narrow view of temptation as an enticement to what is evil because the enemy uses temptations, or tests, often with tragic results. Yet, temptation has a far broader scope of practice in daily life.
We will attempt to not only highlight some various temptations or “tests” that mankind faces, but also the some of its dangers as well as its positive aspects. To do so we will look at the "nature" of temptation and its effects from the garden to the cross and from the cross until the throne.
