Tendinitis is an inflammation or irritation of a tendon, a thick cord that attaches bone to muscle. Tendinitis is most often caused by repetitive, minor impact on the affected area, or from a sudden more serious injury. Tendinitis can occur in almost any area of the body where a tendon connects a bone to a muscle. Symptoms of tendinitis include: Pain at the site of the tendon and surrounding area, and can cause loss of motion in the affected area.
Treatment of tendinitis includes: Avoiding activities that aggravate the problem, resting the injured area, icing the area the day of the injury, taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs or using topical anti-inflammatory gels. You may need more advanced treatments, including: Corticosteroid

I chose the rotator cuff because it is a very important set of muscles that lets us move our shoulders and do many day to day things. The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and tendons that attach to the bones of the shoulder joint, which allows the shoulder to move and also keep it stable. The four muscles that make up the rotator cuff are the Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, and the Subscapularis. These hold the head of the humerus into the scalpula. Injuries to the rotator cuff are very common.…

This article is explaining how bad ACL tears truly are and why they are difficult to heal. An acl cannot heal itself, thus making it difficult to try and heal it. Many times when someone tears their ACL, their MCL is also torn. But the ACL does not reknit itself after an injury while the MCL does. Harvard Medical School doctors researched on a better way to heal an acl tear and they learned that using blood clots is a good method. When an MCL is torn, blood clots are created automatically which will help heal the tissue, but this does not happen in ACLs. So these doctors tried to repair ACLs by doing the blood clot scaffolding. They tested these methods on pigs and it was successful. It took about twelve months for the pigs to be as…

A rotator cuff repair becomes necessary when a patient has unbearable pain, cannot sleep through the night, and has limited shoulder and arm mobility. The goal of this procedure is to reattach the torn muscles of the rotator cuff to the humerus. The rotator cuff is composed of four tendons that attach to the humerus and are continuous of four muscles that originate at the scapula. Each muscle has a name – supraspinatus, subscapularis, infraspinatus, and the teres minor, and any of these muscles can be damaged. “A rotator cuff tear usually occurs where the supraspinatus tendon inserts into the humerus. The injury can be superficial or can involve the entire tendon. Degenerative conditions,…

Supraspinatus tendonitis or painful arc syndrome is an inflammation of a fibrous connective tissue that attaches the muscle to the bone, tendons. The reason supraspinatus tendonitis is known as painful arc syndrome is because inflammation in the supraspinatus tendon causes a painful arc. The muscle it affects is located on the back of the shoulder that emerge from the supraspinous fossa of the scapula into the top of the greater tubercle of the humerus or the supraspinatus muscle. The supraspinatus muscles located under the acromion, flat in appearance, approximately a quarter inch in width, about one inch long, help lift the arm upward in an arc. It is the muscle that allows you to move your arm away from the side of your body up to about fifteen…

The iliotibial band can be rested, iced and compressed to reduce pain and inflammation, followed by stretching. Using a foam roller to loosen the iliotibial band can help prevent and treat ITBS. A compression wrap to mobilize the ITB where the tendon meets the knee is also key to reduce the inflammation. Another pain reliever would be a cortisone injection into the area, which is usually helpful, and it can also be curative. But for the more severe and treatment-resistant cases may require surgery to mobilize…

If you have tendinitis, you have an inflammation of the tendon. Ankle tendinitis is usually the result of a sudden injury or from overuse. All forms of tendinitis cause pain, swelling, and tenderness in the area involved. Initial treatment for tendinitis includes immobilizing the ankle, limiting weight-bearing, applying ice, elevating the ankle and using anti-inflammatory drugs. More severe tendinitis may require wearing a casting. Physical activity should be limited while the tendon is inflamed, because there is a considerable risk of rupturing or tearing the tendon.…

“Crack!” That was my ankle. I had no idea that was going to happen. I guess those things happen sometimes, right? I will tell you how it all played out. When I was in third grade, I went camping and I broke my ankle. It was a brisk day in Wisconsin. My mom, sister, step-dad, step-brother, and I were going tent camping and my mom and I longed to go to a fun, awesome place. We wanted to go to a apple farm. When my family and I arrived at the apple orchard, it was beautiful to see the shiny, golden honey crisp apples all over the place. There were millions of apples and kids having so much fun. First we had to get apple cider doughnuts. Then we approached a barn, inside there so many kittens!!!! We snuggled and hugged them. When my sister and…
