This main idea of this selection was an idea I agree with and found interesting to read about, but speaking in terms of literacy I found that some of the other selections were better. The author expressed his support along with other’s support towards the youth. Youth was the main idea and the only focus throughout the selection. Every detail that was included pertained to youth in one way or another, but after reading over the selection once or twice the information all began to sound the same. Bacon supported his point with many details and references, so it is understandable that a few of the supporting details overlapped. The author also used references to many other poets and people who once had something important to say. His references did add value to the story by giving at least one other point of view besides Bacon’s. Using the thoughts from many other individuals in a way takes the author’s personal spark out of the selection. When readers are reading a selection from a particular author, they want their opinions and thoughts to be expressed clearly and thoroughly.
