Personally, I have been in a collision due to the other driver not paying attention to the road but rather apps on their phone. Thankfully, neither one of us were seriously injured, but mentally I am affected by it. I have become paranoid about future accidents and further aware of each and every vehicle around me. Often I see other young drivers preoccupied by their phones or even taking selfies. Being on the road everyone’s life is important and photos can wait until the destination has been reached. Not only does inattentive driving effect both drivers, but also the families of …show more content…
the driver in the case of a serious injury or even worse death. A mother could be losing a child or a student losing their teacher.
Many lawsuits are opened each day due to this issue, some with even worse factors such as driving under the influence, along with drug use.
Many improvements are needed to make our roads a safer place and decrease the amount of deaths and injuries from distracted driving. There are newly created apps that block texting while driving. For example, ‘Cellcontrol’ which is a way parents can place a device under the dashboard that will block text messages from being received or sent during the time of driving. This device can also disable emails and the camera as long as the app is on the cellphone. Developments like this have the potential to make a huge difference and the more our society is made aware of this app the
better.
A great way to get this message across is to have additional advertisements on Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and Twitter that warn teens about absent minded driving. Promoting apps that disable texting while driving! Majority of the population watch YouTube videos and Netflix, instead of clicking ‘skip ad’ or fast forwarding commercials, that is a great opportunity to showcase the extreme dangers of thoughtless driving. Increasing the number of persons made aware of the severity abstracted driving has led to. Small changes such as the vehicle not being able to drive unless all passengers have on a seat belt. Raising the age that teens may legally start driving. High schools making an effort to inform students constantly that driving is simply a form of transportation and it is up to me and others my age to make it a less daunting experience.
Bringing it back to a safe way of commuting, rather a mere Snapchat moment. Music is one of the biggest distractions inside of the vehicle and one of the easiest problems to fix. One of the most popular apps to listen to music today is Spotify. They have added a new feature to the app of when the car is in motion a disclaimer pops up that says to be safe while driving. Stopping the music from being played if the vehicle is already in motion. This update has helped me personally because, I love music, but it is definitely a huge distraction for me. It is hard to focus on the road with music blasting in your ears. Social media, texting and music are all great outlets but they have a specific time and place. While being on the road these outlets will only continue to develop distracted driving. With continuous effort from all drivers distracted will be conquered!
