Supporters of banning texting while driving consider it a safety threat. According to Issues and Controversies by the numbers there is an estimated 47 percent of respondents that have admitted to texting while driving. From the same article there is found to be an estimated 250,000 American motorist that text and drive. Having such a high percentage of phone users behind the wheel could possibly result in more collisions. The opponents state one could say the same thing about any other type of distraction such as applying makeup and or changing the radio station. According to issues and controversies bans on cell phones have not reduced crash rates. Also, opponents, argue that it is nearly impossible for law enforcement to prove texting occurred. Lastly, detecting and stopping phone usage behind the wheel is virtually
