Back to the magazine ad, I feel that creating this superior image targets young as well as older men. They appear cool to a younger age group while also targeting a more middle age group that represents everything they could have been in their lives, but can be by using their body wash so as insinuated in the commercial I talked about previously.…

A common misconception is that only women care about their bodies and how they look in men’s eyes. However, the author Ted Spiker shares his own experience with male body image. His main target is to convince his audience (women) that body image matter to men as it matters for women. In his article he mainly relied on pathos as an effective way to reach his audience. Throughout the article the author used “we” effectively as he is talking from the prospective of men directing his speech to women. His introduction succeeded in defining the problem by simply describing his own suffer from fats and poor body image when he was a child. In fact, the author also used ethos as evidence for each reason he mentioned. For instance, he stated that a recent…

Commercials are always targeting specific audiences with certain angles or visuals in the ad, for example, the Old Spice Company is a male deodorant and body wash producer but in this commercial the spokesperson is trying to convince women that they want their men to wear Old Spice. This particular ad is directed towards audiences that are couples, and even single males who want to appeal more to the women. The…

After reading this article, my mind brought me to think back to many advertisements that I have viewed on shelves of stores as well as gym membership pictures. These figures we see, as they appear toned and have perfection, are never the raw images of these particular individuals. When an advertisement states that the reader should start a new physical training in order to achieve this goal, it includes a denomination of false advertising. These images of these built individuals claim to have recently started new workout habits when in reality these models have kept in shape all their lives and have worked out daily in order to achieve their body types. Women in the workforce viewing these advertisements wanting to appear as these younger more fit women believe they too, can achieve such a body if…

They have informal language that makes the magazine more friendly as it is written in a way a woman would speak to their friends with abbreviations and colloquial language. Although a lot of the articles that are included on the front of these magazines are written in imperative sentences “bin your body blues”. It gives the impression that woman are flawed and the only way to change this is to change themselves to be more accepted by society…

The cover of Men’s Health uses red, white, grey, and black text. These colors are considered to look more manly, rather than if they used pink or yellow. The font used is very bold and block-like. On the cover there is a photo of Blake Griffin soaking wet with his strong physique being exploited. This affects men because since Griffin is strong, they believe by reading Men’s Health it will tell them how to look like that too. They also try to make him a sex symbol by his lack of clothing. This issue of the magazine is titled the “Special Lose-Your_Gut Issue!” One of the articles shown in bold on the cover is “New Year, New You! Get back in shape in 17 days!” this article is making the importance of a “cut” body a necessity. There are also other words written on the cover such as: “Bigger Arms Fast!” and “Hard Abs Made Easy!” These articles and words are making the false pretense that every man needs to be strong and fit looking. The unrealistic idea that everyman needs to look perfect has a negative affect on the men who don’t look like Griffin, lowering their self-esteem. “365 Perfect Muscle, Sex, Nutrition & Health Tips,” shows that looks and sex is all that’s important to people. It makes love life…

This plays a huge role in how young girls perceive themselves. In the presentation by Dr. Sosin, she stated that the average model is 5”10 and 110lbs. This is what the world wants our young girls to see as the norm. She also stated that the real norm for girls is 5”4 and 145lbs. This is just another example of the lies that are fed to our daughters that causes them more stress than what they are already dealing with. Advertisements like this in my opinion are what leads to young girls having eating disorders and having strong issues with self-image and how they look. A lot of times these ads have them aiming for a goal that is unrealistic to obtain. The advertisement for young men could mean something altogether different. When watching the commercial the writer noticed that most of the men in the commercial did not have their shirts…

Gender stereotypes need to be stomped out and vanish. Everyone is who they are for a reason, and that’s because no one else is like you. But today, everyone goes with what’s in through the media. Being thin, having a lot of makeup caked on and doing your hair all the time, and men be super manly on tv/commercials. Cooking, beauty, and masculinity are three of most likely hundreds of more stereotypes that have been addressed in not just my paper, but…

Many businesses will spend millions of dollars creating and presenting an advertisement about their product. The debt they pay out to create these promotions will pay off, in the long run, making them enormous amounts of money. The designers of these advertisements strive to influence consumers to purchase their goods. Without commercials or magazine articles promoting their merchandise, many of the items would go unnoticed. However, advertising does not only advance their products, but it also plays with the consumers’ emotions, provides false hope, and it encourages a stereotype of how men and women should look.…

There is an abundance of ads in magazines that may not pertain to you at all. But, there are those few ad’s some see while skimming through a magazine while in line to check out at the grocery store that catch your attention. Many will look at the ad while they are waiting in line, and some will even purchase the magazine as they are interested in what they are both seeing and reading. People will see many ads in magazines. Most with the intent to get one to purchase a product of some kind. While I was skimming through a magazine I purchased at the store, the ad that caught my eye was a weight loss ad. The product is called NutriSystem, which is targeting people who are looking for a weight loss program that has many of the same benefits as NutriSystem does.…

In the same article it talked about men desiring the complete opposite: wanting to “add inches” and “building" their bodies. This article showed that even though we may hear about women’s body image more often than we do about men’s, males just like women have insecurities and can feel the need and want to become bulkier and have a more tanned skin look. The media shows that both men and women have an ideal look and that every man and women should look like…

Masculine Culture. Many cultures have a similar belief that men should be tough, emotionless, and capable individuals able to provide for their family and protect them. This idea often casts sickness as a weakness that men should not have. This of course is a very limiting and often harmful perspective for cultures to practice and is often embedded in many males subconscious that in turn affects the way they approach health. According to Will H. Courtenay's article, “Constructions of masculinity and their influence on men's well-being: a theory of gender and health,” health behaviors between females and males are not only different but greatly affect the risk of illness each face. Furthermore a majority of findings all point out that adult men make fewer…

Some added that like females, males are heavily idealized. While this is true, it is not as problematic or widespread as it is for women. On the subject of masculinity in the media, several interviewees associated alcohol (specifically beer), violence, sports, and muscles with male characters in the media. An older white female said that to be a man you had to rescue the “damsel in distress.” Three out of five brought up the fact that men who are smart or non-athletic are looked upon negatively by the media and are viewed as less of a man. Nerds are weak, something to be avoided at all costs; jocks are the ideal. Male characters dominate mass media, and with this domination comes more varied types of men, yet the perfect male stereotype still…

I am a fanatic reader of the magazine mainly for sports and the field of entertainment for the simple reason that they offer in ads, but I search for some ad in those fields and found nothing so I came upon a very different commercial and a magazine ad while trying to pick one that would give my imagination freedom to thrive and would instantly persuade me into buying something that will be needed around the house. I was searching though this magazine when I came across a man sitting on his lawn mower and in front a neighborhood with some pretty green grass.…
