Businesses that make clothing items have helped shape a stereotype of how men and women should look. Clothing can make a person feel good about themselves and improve self-esteem. However, many clothing stores have created the image that women should be tall, and skinny. Victoria Secret demonstrates this particular image of women because of the type of models they use to promote their products, with almost every model being very thin and tall. Women’s clothing is not the only retail product that shaped body image. Calvin Cline also demonstrates the image that men should be tall, and muscular by only using male models who fit this acceptable image. Samson reveals, “When we feel good, we have higher energy levels and like to reward ourselves more generously.” Consumers who fit these particular body images will feel confident and happy and want to purchase this particular brand of clothing. However, someone who does not fit their specific image will feel down and depressed and will be less likely to buy these
