The 13th Reflection
The event that was being held was in the romita auditorium, in which they watched a documentary known as the 13th. I didn't attend the actual event but I did participate in watching it on netflix. The 13th is an american documentary by Ava Duvernay that was centered around race and the criminal justice system in the United States. This extraordinary and informative documentary completely changed my entire mindset. I always was confident that I was woke, in the sense that I was very aware about black issues and how african americans have been discriminated against and wrongfully convicted for hundreds of years. But actually watching this shed light on all the things I wasn't ever aware of. It's all in the title 13th, refers to the 13th

Although we have the 13th Amendment banning slavery, some believe that our government leaders still haven’t accepted it, and they have found other ways to continue the mistreatment of people of color. The movie 13th explores the controversial topic of racism and discrimination from African Americans’ perspectives. I agree with most of the information presented in this movie; I also support their overall conclusion that the 13th Amendment is a tool to get rid of African Americans in our society. I believe that your government has taken part in numerous ways to target and infuriate African Americans in society, even after the 13th Amendment and the Civil Rights movement. The quotes and information presented in this video strengthen my thoughts and ideas of the mistreatment and unjust behaviors towards African Americans.…

I thought the film was very thought-provoking and had strong concepts. Whoever named the movie 13th deserves a raise because that is the best title ever imagined. During the movie they follow the timeline of events in history starting in the slave era. They mention how white people intentionally used their rhetoric in literature to turn communities against black people. Whites made them out to look like rapists and a threat to white women. The film Birth of a Nation strengthened this ideology by making the blacks look like cannibals and mongrels. The documentary went on to talk about Jim Crow laws and the KKK. One quote that really stuck out to me was by the beloved MLK Jr, “justice too long delayed is justice denied.” I believe this really sums up the entire movement and is even still apparent today.…

As I have outline about Jesus did not claim to be God, but he did state that I am the Fathers and Son. And if a person is a Christian, does it matter how they live their life, yes it does because they are suppose to be God leader in order to help others come to God. When reflecting over this past semester and my time in Medical surgical three, I have seen a great deal improvement in understanding of different medical care and various conditions. I improved my knowledge through the use of assigned readings, case studies, and other different assignments. When I first began this course I had a very limited knowledge about different medical conditions and how to care for these types of patients. The first day of class I was surprised by the content and the pace it was conveyed, I was very glad that I had brought my recording so that I could catch all the information that was being taught.…

A Lesson Before Dying is a story revolving around the topic of race, identity and pride in one’s self. The people are furious, especially the African-american community, the protagonists are questioning themselves on what and who they are, as well as what they should be. Most of the main and recurring characters who side with jefferson, who has been sentenced to death, try to teach him to have dignity, and die as a man, rather than a hog as he had been compared to an animal repeatedly by those in court and himself, while at the same time these characters are having to swallow the cruelty and bitterness racism leaves behind. Grant Wiggins at the time is also having to struggle internally with the concept he had learned to ignore and accept…

For many years there has been so much debate on whether punishment or rehabilitation would be the main issue in the juvenile system. They have gone back and forward from punishment to rehabilitation and still to this day it is still going on in our society, in which they should be forcing on rehabilitating our young youth to better themselves because they are our future generation that is coming up, instead of punishing them in which that is not going to help them one bit, only thing that is going to do is continue more problems within our youth.…

It appears to me that in this year 11 piece of reflective writing, “A tale of two towers”, is about a fellow student who gain an interest with writing. His curiosity and progression as a writer all starts with an inspiration. Instead of watching films, he would rather read comic books, in which his writing is filled with fantasy and science fiction. In his experience, writing is not an easy task. He had failed many times, but this does not stop him from writing, but instead it had prompt him to try harder.…
