Individuals are accepting the idea that no matter how much effort they give, they will never be rich. However, individuals should be against that idea and put in more effort to be the best they can be. Following the views of the new American Dream, people will not push harder to get promotions; they just do the bare minimum. If people can aim for a higher status, they still may only receive middle class pay, meaning that more people would rid themselves of poverty if they shoot to be the best as opposed to moderate. The true American Dream should be achieved solely by those who don't settle for mediocrity. The American Dream has changed, but not for the better. The issue of unemployment and unfair business opportunities has led to the dream only being feasible for some. Society has fallen into mediocrity, when citizens should be striving to be the best they can. The way we think and act now is not the way the American Dream was meant to reflect.
