American Dream Essay America has strived and fought for freedom ever since the beginning of our nation. They fought for freedom from the British, fought to own their own land, and fought for equality among everyone. These are the pillars of the American dream. These are what we fought for over many years. We have faced a lot of adversity against many people, but these are the things they clung to during times of suffering. One day, the American dream will change, but it will not change anytime soon.
Owning land is something British people wanted to do when they first came over to the American colonies. They worked as indentured servants so that they could get a piece of land. They would …show more content…
only have to work as an indentured servant if they did not have enough money. Something everyone strives to have is a house and a family, this is a common thing among American people. This brings a sense of protectiveness over their family and their house. That allows for a purpose to fight for the country that is protecting what is precious to them. One way Americans have strived to own land is through the american federation of labour. This federation allowed for higher pay, shorter hours, and allowed for more time at home. If someone did not have a house and they worked for more money, then they could buy the house quicker and own something of their own. This feeling of ownership, causes people to want to protect. Since they own a piece of america, then they want to protect the land of america.
Another part of the American dream is equality. Americans have fought for equality on many fronts. The first front would be racism. America has fought racism throughout the years, all we want to do is have everyone happy. This racism prohibits everyone from being equal. Since this caused such a problem we had a very helpful man persuade most people. His name was Martin Luther King Jr. This man was very important in fighting the racism, he was an african american that showed how bad racism was. He wanted his kids to be free of this cause. Martin Luther King helped African Americans to be equal to whites (Martin Luther).
One other way americans showed equality, was the equality for handicap people. Handicap people were often regarded to as a lesser human being. So they were not treated fairly. The Americans Disability act changed the way people looked at the disabled. The act stated that all men, disabled or not, should be treated equally in a job interview. Most of the time back then, disabled people had a very hard time getting jobs. This allowed them to get jobs over people that were not disabled. They were both finally treated equally. (Disability act)
The last part of the American dream is freedom.
America has strived for freedom for many years. The first strive for freedom was the colonist that lived in america, fought Great Britain ( a power house ). There was theoretically no way the colonist should have won. Somehow, they managed to pull it off. This secured their freedom from countries. This is also when America was born. After many wars to fight for our freedom, we realized that we were not actually a true free country, we had slaves. Abe lincoln realized this and knew it was wrong. Abe fought to get rid of slavery. Many people agreed with abe so they fought for the freedom of the slaves. This shows that we have strived to better the well being of other people. (abe lincoln)
These 3 things are the pillars of the American dream. The American dream is supposed to represent something that everyone wants to strive to achieve. Without these things, American life would not really change. The American dream would just change. Equality was something everyone could help out with and support. Freedom was the thing that was fought for in the birth of this country. Having land is something our founding fathers dreamed about. All these things have encompassed the american dream. The American dream will change, but it will not change any time
soon.
