"The Apt Pupil" tells the story of thirteen-year-old Todd Bowden, the total all-American kid, and "…an extremely apt pupil." It was not until one day, we find that Todd discovers a nasty secret about his neighbor. We are first introduced to Kurt Dussander under a different name, Mr. Arthur Denker. Mr. Denker would not admit at first that his real name was Kurt Dussander and this showed then he told Todd, "I will tell you this once, boy, and once only. My name is Arthur Denker. It has never been anything else…" Finally, he fesses up to being the real Kurt Dussander. Kurt Dussander was a Nazi during the war, who was a major part of the deaths of Jews. It was from this point on that Todd would begin to get himself in more trouble than he imagined and it started with his grades. Todd had always been an excellent student in school. In fact, Todd had "Straight A's …show more content…

Todd acted complete cool in the situation and then suddenly "He pushed the safety catch to the off position with his thumb and pointed the rifle at Rubber Ed." Todd would shoot French several times. We see the violent nature of Todd when "He shot Rubber Ed again and roughly half of his head disappeared in a spray of blood and bone." Todd was a changed boy. Once seen as the all-American kid, could now be seen as a shadow of Dussander. Todd lived and breathed off of finding as much as he could about Dussander and he would pay for his actions in the end. ""I'm king of the world!" he shouted mightily at the high blue sky, and raised the rifle two-handed over his head for a moment. Then, switching it to his right hand, he started that place above the freeway where the land fell away and where the dead tree would give him shelter. It was five hours later and almost dark before they took him

Each person has a distinct, identifiable personality. These personalities are the basis of who we are and how we live our lives. Growing up, these personalities are formed through associations and manipulations of the personalities of others. This is clearly evident in Mordecai Richler's The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. In this novel, we follow Duddy Kravitz's life from early adolescence to adulthood. Throughout the novel, signs are given as to the development of Duddy's good and bad personalities. Even at the early stages, Duddy's uncle Benjy was the only one who could identify them and knew what the end result was going to be. Despite all this, we watch these personalities grow to the point where they are beginning to overpower each other and eventually, only one will remain.…

The Bluest Eye is a complex novel written by Toni Morrison, an African American literary theorist. Morrison evokes a society still plagued by the premise of slavery and the exposes this mode of white inferiority through The Bluest Eye. “Wicked people love wickedly, violent people love violently, weak people love weakly, stupid people love stupidly, but the love of a free man is never safe”, Morrison endows these last couple of sentences with a lyrical quality that makes the readers truly understand the depth of Cholly’s character and the “freeness” he experiences. Morrison initially introduces Cholly Breedlove as the antagonist, a drunk and very abusive father; any man who would beat his wife, set his house on fire and rape his daughter couldn’t…

The first character that James introduces in The Pupil is Mr. Pemberton. The author characterizes him as “modest- he was even timid.” Mr Pemberton is such a combination of these that he is afraid to talk about money to his new employer about money that “it cost him such an effort to broach the subject of terms, to speak of money to a person who spoke only of feelings and, as it were, the aristocracy.” Mr Pemberton is almost desperate for the money but it so modest that he won't bring it up. Another aspect of Mr. Pemberton's character that is reveled is that, obviously, he is scholarly. James states that Mr Pemberton is a “resident tutor” along with the fact that “Pemberton wouldn't have enjoyed his [pupil] being stupid.” This creates a tone of sophistication in the “poor young man” that is otherwise beneath his employer and pupil's social standing. With this characterization James creates a tone of admiration, yet pity for this young man who is simply trying to earn a living.…

I attended the Academy For Advanced learners two days after my arrival. Me keeping hidden was a difficult task to achieve. In the halls I passed teachers, some with stern faces and some with bright smiles that seem to hide information not known among the student body. Entering my classes seemed to be all the same. The smell of apricot shaving cream and shea butter lotion with a hint of bodily sweat was all that seem to be different from home. Well besides the fact that the girls wore excessive amounts of makeup and very short skirts. Along with the massive football players. Everyone seemed to be, act, and look identical to each other except for one person. An older young man about the age of 19, His name Daniel Stenberg. He soon seems to become my closest friend.
