The assistance is presented by the checklist developed by Drs. Paul & Elder, and can be seen when the Army Officers confront the “purpose or question at issue”, the “problem”, as defined in the FM 6-0; and when he uses words as the mission, or the end statement if using military jargon. The Army Officer needs to have clear those points and be sure that he has a clear purpose (problem), with clear and defined objective(s), and ask himself if the goal is realistic. Those criteria(s) are based solely on facts and assumptions, and those criteria(s) are based on a value, a specific standard, items getting for granted, or what the boss stays as his criteria as the ADRP 5-0 explains. In order to facilitate the evaluation or screening of those assumptions, the elements of thought could became very helpful when the Army Officer use his critical thinking and reasoning about the justification of those assumptions, he need to think about the impact of those assumptions and the relationship with his own point of view(s) and expect those assumptions be challenged or questioned.
