Despite being a collection of tales that everyone knows, the play adds a new dynamic to them, intertwining them in fresh and unique ways not seen before. So even though the audience has a general idea of where the story is going and how it will end, Into the Woods is able to pleasantly surprise them with new takes on the stories. The audience is able to gain an enriched experience from the play by seeing before their eyes familiar stories adapted to a more modern take. Even if the audience had never experienced the Brothers Grimm’s stories, the play would be enjoyable nonetheless; however, the added layer of knowledge and understanding adds to the humor of the play when things go awry and unexpectedly, often cued by the actors breaking the fourth wall and raising their eyebrows in surprise at the audience. One aspect of Into the Woods that helps readers understand the theme is its blatant telling of it; the play alludes to the often-cryptic ways that stories like to hide their themes in, and thus instead outright say the…

The first lesson that I learned was that mass hysteria often creates harmful stereotypes. In the play, mass hysteria spreads throughout the entire community that there are young girls who are capable of witchcraft. These rumors are spread although there is no tangible proof. This is significant because it fuels stereotypes, i.e. all women who deviate slightly from social norms are witches. This is a very valuable lesson in today’s society, as people often participate in mass hysteria, which strengthens harmful stereotypes. For example, if there is a group of men on a plane and each man is wearing a turban and speaking softly amongst each other, then other people on the plane might start gossiping and spreading rumors that the men are planning a terrorist attack. In several minutes, the whole plane might be in an uproar over the thought of a potential terrorist attack and the men might be classified as terrorists and even brought into custody, although there is no physical proof.…

Throughout the play, a stifling atmosphere of fear lingers over Salem. This apprehension is caused by the ever-growing possibility of being accused of witchcraft. During this period, even the mentioning of the word “witchcraft” struck a chord of uneasiness into people. Punishment for this crime was severe and “a hanging error” (18). Witchcraft is closely associated with hanging and being accused meant one is on his way to death. In addition, witchcraft, according to Judge Danforth, is considered “ipso facto, on its face and by its nature, an invisible crime”(100). Only “the witch and the victim” (100) may bear witness to the crime and “we must rely upon the victims [to] [...] testify”(100). The victims, in this case, are the children. Consequently, with such an unjust method of court, the townspeople’s fears are further augmented. Not only do they fear being accused, they fear…

In today’s economy not everyone can afford fifty to a hundred dollars here and there, every week or two. In our constant innovation and search for developing better and more efficient ways has finally led us to options. New technology has helped us further advance the automotive industry, but hastily neglected the environment. In order to help out with the carelessness of the environment; automotative companies have began creating more powerful and proficient electric and hybrid vehicles. With the prices in gas being so high, people have begun to look at alternative fueled vehicles such as electric and hybrid cars. In the last ten to fifteen years’ prices have dropped considerably for electric and hybrid cars. Today electric cars can be purchased in the $10,000 to $15,000 price range for very basic entry models, and hybrids can be purchased for $30,000 TO $45,000 all depending on the model you desire (Electric Car Costs vs. Gasoline Cars vs. Hybrids). Electric and hybrid cars both use technology that is designed to decrease the use of gasoline fuel for powering car engines. Electric cars are totally electric, meaning that they must be plugged in and charged, and that the range of the car is only as far as the charge. Hybrid cars use a mixture of gas and electric power to create a gas efficient partially electric car with a less limited range. In order to help preserve our environment necessary changes have been made to vehicles such as: making them electric, and hybrid. I strongly believe that hybrid vehicles would suit people in today’s society better, and benefit all more efficiently.…
