I am reading “The Bass, the River, and Shelia Mant” by W.D. Wetherell. This story is about the narrator who likes a older girl and asks her on a date. When she accepts they go in a canoe to the dance and he hooks a Bass and has to choose. In this journal I will be questioning and connecting. I am wondering weather or not the narrator will choose Shelia or the Bass. I will also be connecting a decision where it ended up in regret.
One possibility is that he will choose the Bass.
A reason is because he automatically sets up his fishing supplies as if it was a habit. He also seems very passionate and knowledgeable about fish. Another reason is because while he was on the date with Shelia he seemed much more focused on the fish than her. When he talked with Shelia about fishing instead of removing it from the boat he just hid it. During most of the boat ride he was dealing with the fish and pretending to listen to her. And a third reason he could choose the Bass is because in part of the story he refers to Shelia as a memory.
Another possibility is that he chooses Shelia.
The first reason is that he likes her a lot because he thinks that she is very beautiful from her freckles to red hair. The second reason is that he has spent a lot of time watching and observing her. He knows her moods, that her …show more content…
When I was younger I was playing with my sister and she ran up to me and asked me to push her on the swing so I did. After a few minutes I got tired and stopped and went in leaving her on the swing. When I came back out side she was tangled in the swing upside down I got in lots of trouble. I made that choice sort of unintentionally because I forgot she couldn’t get off the swing and I had to pee. I regret the decision now because every time I go to the park with my sister my parents remind me to take my 11 year old sister with me when I
