The Battle of Mactan
INTRODUCTION:
A pleasant morning to all of you tourists! I am Dan Kenneth Abellar, you can call me 'Ken' for short.I am studying at Colegio de San Antonio de Padua taking up Bachelor of Science in Travel Management. I am your tourguide for today and I'll be explaining to all of you a brief history about how the Battle of Mactan started.
HISTORY:
It was on April 7,1521 when the three remaining galleons under the command of Fernando de Magallanes dropped anchor in Sawang (now Suburban San Nicolas, Cebu) to stay in the port for 20 historic days, the longest stop over in the navigator’s epic voyage that started in Spain on 1519.
With a characteristic display of supremacy, Magellan did not only subjugate the native chieftain of Sugbu, Rajah Humabon, but befriended the entire community leading to their conversion to Christianity by having the royal couple baptized and gifted with a small icon of the Holy Child or Sto. Niño.
At that time, there was a bad blood between Humabon and Lapu-Lapu hence, the former saw an opportunity to conquer his hated rival with the aid of superior arms.
Hearing about the stubbornness of Lapu-Lapu, Magellan lost no time to send a messenger bearing threats and boastful taunts, declaring that defiance would mean death.
The conditions imposed among others were to swear allegiance to Spain, payment of tribute to the King, abandonment of pagan beliefs and acceptance of a new faith. Failure to comply will be answered by sword and fire.
It was said that in defying the treats of Magellan and in being made to choose between servitude and extinction, Lapu-Lapu return the message with extreme pride saying: “I bow to no King, I only owe allegiance to my people”. Thus was triggered the Battle of Mactan on April 27, 1521.
Magellan was vanquished but the faith of Lapu-Lapu afterwards was not exactly known while the remaining crew of the expedition returned to Spain with Juan

“In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.” On August 3rd, 1492 Christopher Columbus departed Spain on his first voyage with his three ships; the Santa Maria, the Pinta, and the Santa Clara (also known as the Nina). After two months out in the ocean, Columbus and his crew saw land on October 12th. They step foot onto the land that was not Asia, as they had assumed, but the Bahamian islands. For months, Columbus looked for the riches that he had promised the Spanish monarchs in the Caribbean, sailing to one island to the next. Although Christopher Columbus’s original intentions were to find a fortune and to spread the word about Catholicism, he mostly enslaved the natives using brutal tactics. Spain’s effort to colonize the new world was based solely on spreading the word of God. Spain at the time of Columbus’s expedition was “the most loyal Roman Catholic nation in Europe” (Gaustad’s pg.16) and therefore spreading the gospel was a main focus. It was said by General Treausrer Sanchez “the expedition could prove to be a great service to God” (gaustad’s pg.16). Spain wanted to see if there was more land to claim and if there was, they wanted to make sure that said people were brought to God through salvation (Gaustad’s pg. 17). Once new Land was acquired, Spain pushed for a complete conversion of other religions and practices to follow suit of the Catholic Church. The purification of land by fire was the harsh way Spain got their intension of change to the people habiting the different lands. The cruel ways were used by Spain when trying to “covert and isolate the Jews”(Gaustad’s pg 17).…

The Battle of Hue in 1968 was the bloodiest battle of Vietnam. On the night of January 30th 1969 the North Vietnamese (NVA) launched a massive offensive against the south called the Tet offensive. This offensive attacked all major political and military objectives within South Vietnam. This offensive was supposed to conduct a “shock and awe” that would demoralize the South Vietnam and Allied Forces. The city of Hue was one of these cities. At midnight the NVA started their assault on Hue City sending an entire division to attack and ending up seizing all of Hue City except for the ARVN Headquarters and the MACV Headquarters in the southern part.
