The first characteristic of a saved person is that he or she first come to the conclusion that he or she is poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3). This means one has come to the realization that he or she has nothing to offer God. In other words, it is a humble attitude when it comes to spiritual matters. He or she is mourning over the way he or she lived in the past (Matthew 5:4). Unfortunately, this is a phase we all go through if we want to be saved. We think about how good God has been to us in blessing us with every thing we have and we only have returned disobedience and selfishness to Him! However, He is a forgiving God and this is why He says those who mourn will be comforted. They will be comforted because they will realize that Jesus will offer forgiveness to them if they will only take the offer. So if this is you, God is looking for you!
The next characteristic of a saved person is that he or she is a meek person (Matthew 5:5). That is, he or she has a gentle personality. He or she wants to treat others with decency and respect. So if this is you, God is looking for you!
The fourth characteristic of a saved person is that he or she hungers and thirst after righteousness (Matthew 5:6). This means that if you truly desire to live righteously, then God will help you achieve it! Of course, you will have the avenue of prayer where you can ask Him for strength over temptation in your time of need (Ephesians 3:16; 1 Peter 3:12). You will also have the Bible’s promises at your disposal to daily use to strengthen you, but you must have the drive to study so you can discern between good and evil (Hebrews 5:14).
