O-lan has shown herself as someone with a low self esteem, who views herself as unlovable and worthless. Hence, she feels, as what she has to think isn't important. Instead of bringing attention to herself, O-lan will be carrying out actions in the background to prevent upsetting her husband. This causes O-lan to be…
This Song relates to Romeo and Juliet , after Romeo killed Tybalt, who was Juliet's cousin. The reason he killed him , because Tybalt killed Mercutio, who was Romeo’s best friend. After Tybalt was killed the prince came and people told on Romeo. Romeo then went to Friar Lawrence house on some advice on what he just did. Then the nurse came and told Romeo that he wife was in a suicidal mind “Oh, she says nothing, sir;just weeps and weeps.” The song is relating to someone trying to get to their and that , that person is taking their breath away. Meaning that person is trying so hard for them that it’s taking their breath away.…
The imagery of “weaving” a song suggests that the song, as it progresses, binds the listener tighter and tighter. In the same way, Odysseus becomes entwined in the Sirens’ beauty…

The entire poem is written with a tone of sadness or depression. This evokes the senses of the reader by being able to sense how the girl is feeling and see how the words of others affect her. It can be pictured, this little girl who plays with the Barbie doll and it is just a toy, but to others it is the appearance that society wants and she soon realizes that when a fellow classmate hurts her with mean words. She can not go on with the fear that everyone sees her as imperfect or flawed, so in the end she gives up on trying and eventually gives up on herself. A simile in the poem, “Her good nature wore out/like a fan belt,” the message here is that she has given up on everything.…
“The Odyssey” is a story about a King named Odysseus, who goes off to lead a war and is separated from his family and kingdom for 20 years. While he is away for so many years his son grows up into a man and helps his mother; Odysseus’ wife, Penelope rules the kingdom. After many years of Odysseus being gone, suitors or “wooers” arrive trying to win over the queen. When Odysseus gets back he brutally slaughters everyone who was involved with the suitor’s plans, including the innocent servant women, who were working in his castle at the time.…
At this point he is explaining to Jocasta about his fate. He tells her about when he visited Apollo when he found out about his fate he ran away from his adoptive family because it was told that he would kill his father and marry his mother. Oedipus said ‘“My fate was to defile my mother’s bed, to bring forth to men a human family that people could not bear to look upon, and slay the father who engendered me.”’ (oed.950-955).…

It is said that Rome was not built in a day. True. It took ambition, lust, murder and the unrivalled power of technology to make the Roman Empire span across three continents and many centuries. While the contributions of ambition, conquest and other political and militaristic factors remain important for the Roman Republic to transform into an Empire, none of this could have been possible without the immense contribution of engineering and technology. In this essay, we shall look into three engineering feats that I believe were crucial in building the Roman Empire. We shall be making use of the video “Rome: Engineering an Empire” as an aid towards the selection of the three technological marvels.…
The theme of justice is shown very early in the poem. Zeus is thinking about the story of Aigisthos. Aigisthos married Agamemnon’s wife, Klytaimestra, and killed him on his return. Aigisthos was warned by Hermes to, “not to kill the man, nor court his lady for marriage” (Lattimore, Book 1, 39). This led to Orestes, son of Agamemnon, to kill Aigisthos in honor of his father. Not only does Orestes kill Aigisthos, he even kill his mother for committing adultery and aiding in the death of his father. The gods believes Aigisthos death was justifiable because he was warned; yet he still committed those crimes. Shown in the first few lines of the poem, Orestes’ actions seems to be a justifiable precedent for Odysseus when he gets back to his household.…
In the final stanza the meaning of her journey is given, she really wants to travel but she can’t. “She put the books back on the shelf” All the experiences given before were all fabricated in her imagination. Her ideas set alight her imagination which went wild, taking her all over the world. “She rifled the Pharaohs bones… looking down from the tops of the Andes….” Her experiences in all the…
Health issues are a big obstacle in the world today. Depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, PTSD, etc is the biggest and they are able to be treated but people do not come to realize it. These health issues are crucial, especially if it is a worse condition than most, but the biggest issue with them is that they are not being taken care of correctly. Most people that try to help, make it worse because they do not understand the best way to help out. Most parents do not get the idea that pets make the best treatment for any mental health disorder and health problem.…
The poem discusses the funeral of a woman and how she is presented in her funeral as someone people would be more likely to romanticize than what she actually was, perhaps out of a misguided sign of respect. The other more hidden meaning behind the poem is the author's reaction to the women herself and how she is portrayed in almost a spiteful, angry way because of his anger over her wasting her life in gray dullness.…
