The Best Purchase I Ever Made
I bought my first car when I was sixteen years old, knowing nothing but the basic tune-up skills. I bought a 1982 Datsun 280ZX for $1200.00 and couldn't be happier with my purchase. The vehicle had only 100,000 miles on it, even though it was almost thirty years old. The car ran well already but I did my best to get it running as close to new as possible. I purchased new spark plugs, a new air filter, and also bought a couple new electrical components to replace the old ones. I didn't quite know what I was doing until I took a wrench to it and just went for it. I soon learned that my instinctive ability to repair a vehicle, would in time, prove rewarding. I also learned that buying an older car isn't as bad as people think. Older cars possess the ability to provide long lasting dependability, regardless of their age, and also can be a lot easier to work on. All of these aspects benefited me when buying older cars, saving me sums of money in the long run.
I stored the Datsun during the winter months and fixed rust issues with the wheel-wells. After winter had ended, I got excited to drive my car again. Before I could get halfway down the driveway though, a cloud of smoke started to emit from underneath the hood. My excitement immediately suspended itself and my instincts told me that my time to drive the car was not only just over, but a huge problem had occurred. I shut the car off and opened the hood and came to the conclusion the head gasket blew. When this happens, the engine needs to be taken apart in order to correct the problem. I almost shed tears as began to think about the time and effort I would need to repair the car. But in the midst of the issue I came to the conclusion that I would not pay anybody a $1,000.00 plus to fix my car. I was going to repair the engine myself. I was thrown into auto mechanics because of this.
In the middle of the catastrophe, positive aspects about the situation came to mind and had filled me with hope. My Datsun ran well

In 2010 a week after my birthday the car I ordered finally came in a 2010 Camaro SS. I had the vehicle ship to Hennessey performance in Texas where I had modifications done to the vehicle. On completion the vehicle was putting down 485hp to the rear wheel which is a 150hp over stock power. Eight months with by the vehicle was running hard and great. In January of 2011 the engine starts making a ding sound at high RPMS. This sound was different from the normal knocking sound that lean or poorly tuned engine would make. Being in New Orleans Hennessey performance was not easy to get to so I took the vehicle to the dealership. The service manager drove the vehicle and connected it to the computer and the diagnosis was that everything was fine. A week later after leaving the dealership the engine started shaking and the vehicle was not drive able. The dealership diagnosis the vehicle again and determined that the noise was coming from cracked pistons 2, 4, and 7 scratching the motor walls. My family purchased many vehicles from Banner Chevrolet so I knew I had to negotiate my out of this one. Because of the modifications the vehicle power train warranty would be voided and a new LS3 was 14 thousand dollars to replace.…

While my previous car was not a terrible car, I had lacked a sense of ownership in it due to it being handed to me. Purchasing my very own car that I decided on, it gave me pride in what I was driving. I invested thousands into it fine-tuning and modifying it in any way that I desired. I learned many useful insights about automobiles, as well as having fun in the process. As the rules were for my first car, I had to come up with the money for the gas and insurance as well. Working harder and more frequently, I was able to afford and maintain the financial responsibilities required to have my…

On the morning of December 12th I was getting ready to leave my house at 6:20 a.m. for my 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. final. When I got in my car, 2001 Jeep Wrangler that is Navy Blue, and started my car my check engine light came on immediately. My oil and temperature levels were very high. I asked my Dad, Brad Houchen, to come check my car and as he looked he noticed that he believed that my car was leaking oil. He did not feel comfortable letting me drive my car to campus, which is twelve miles away. He did not want my car to break down along the way which could lead to my engine being messed up and me missing my final. He told me to take my Mom’s car, 2011 Nissan Armada, to school and he would take my car to our repair shop, All American Automotive.…

I am so thankful that my dad and I were alright and that no one was injured in the accident. We had gotten a rental car and proceeded with our trip to Florida. I bought a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta when I got settled in and it ended being even nicer than my Volvo ever was. Now, even when bad things happen, I have started to always look for the silver lining. I believe that everything happens for a reason and when something tragic happens, it only means that there is something better in store in the…
