The movie is about these three men that come back from the World War II. It tells the story of these men coming home and their ups and downs it takes to get back to normal life. Al (Fredric March) is the older, upper middle class, higher ranked man in the Army, he was a banker before he left for war, he also has a wife and two kids at home. When he got back home, to his parents’ house where he previously lived his wife wasn’t there. His parents told him that she had moved out and was living in an apartment, and that she was working at a night club. Fred then left to set out and find his wife, when he could not find her he ended up at Butch’s, where he found Homer, Al and Al’s wife and daughter. That night when Fred has to go home Al’s family he has a bad war dream that’s wakes Peggy and she goes to see if he is okay. Peggy tries to ask Fred about it but he doesn’t want to talk. This is another sign of post war depression, not wanting to talk about the bad things that happened to get them out and relieve the pain and worry. Fred and Peggy begin to become attracted to each other. Later in the movie they have lunch and Fred kisses Peggy and in the time this movie was made a man did not fool around with other women when they were married. Fred’s wife invites Peggy to go on a double date with her and Fred, Fred is unhappy that Millie wants to spend money to go out. It was hard for veterans to find jobs after the war so Fred and Millie did not have much income and she was buying things and wanting to go out, when they did not have much. The double date led Peggy to see that Millie was not interested in Fred she was all about money and no love. Fred gets fed up with Millie and they get a divorce. At
