The Black Panther Party was established on October 15, 1966 in Oakland, California.
The two original members responsible for the creation of the movement were Mr. Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. The founders of the association, Bobby Seale and Huey Newton worked hard to fulfill and succeed in the goal that were set forth for the party. The founders and party members dedicated their lives to making sure that African Americans would have the right to protect themselves against ruthless police officers, even though the consequences were deadly. They started food programs to feed children who could not afford it, considering there personal situations at home. Firearms were being fired from the pure hands of black men and women. “The group fought against the United States government to establish revolutionary socialism through mass organizing and African American based programs that would benefit the black community”. (Joseph Peniel
1) Bobby Seale one of the founders of the Black Panther Party, currently is still alive and well today. Although the organization currently possess a non-active status, Bobby continues to show his support in the black community. Bobby donates his money in effort to assist with the daily survival needs of african americans citizens in addition to donating his time to assist with housing and employment programs. (Jackson 7) During the existing time of Black Panther Party, Seale was arrested many times for standing up to police officers in Oakland, California. This did not stop him from working towards his goal. “Seale is known as one of, the generation of, young African-American radicals who, broke away from the traditionally nonviolent Civil Rights Movement to preach a doctrine of militant black empowerment.” (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica 1) Huey P. Newton was the “leader” of the Black Panther Party. While working with the co-founder Bobby Seale, they both managed to make a effective group that took over Oakland. Huey, just like his partner Bobby, was also arrested many times, on the behalf of his people who did not have a voice or courage to speak up for themselves. Once released, Huey went back to patrolling the streets with the party to make sure that the mission he set out stayed in motion. After a short time, Mr. Newton caught a major drug addiction causing his death at the early age of 49. “His legacy still lived on as the one who gave the party a voice, said Anderson”. (8) In conclusion, the collected research about the three staggering bodies of information about this party and the leaders, is certain that the party definitely made an impact on the world. Society has come so far in racial equality but continues to have so much more room for growth. Just because things do not seem to be broken does not mean it cannot be improved. In the societal world today, racial problems still occur but the potential to do better exists still.
