The movie has gotten many great reviews, because of its great acting and very deep story. “Is every extraordinary true story worth adapting to film? Throughout the story, in fact, Lewis refers to many events from the past. In addition, he talks about the importance of the left tackle position in football. This position is the one played by Michael Oher, the tall, beefy, and athletic main character. At a young age, Oher had already been abandoned by his dad who was in prison, and his mother struggled to find him a good home since she was a crack/cocaine addict who spent the majority of her time shooting up. He also had countless siblings to take care of, and he was the oldest of the bunch. At that point in his life, Michael thought that he had around 14, but didn 't know for sure because they were all separated at about the age of 7 by children’s aid. Michael was known as a runner for always running away from his foster home and trying to find his siblings and mother. Later on, Oher ran into a man named Big Tony, who would take him home and let him live there for the majority of his childhood. Tony began to call Oher "Big Mike", due to his large frame and tough personality. In tenth grade, Mike was failing most of his classes, and had a very low gpa. He tested very low in his standardized iq testing, but had one thing that stood out. Michael tested 98 percent in one of his percentiles, protective instincts. The book had part of its plot based on Michael’s life, and the other on the growth of the game and left tackle. The talk about how Jose theismans arm was broken in two places because hs left tackle did not protect his blind side, and maybe his am breaking in two hinted to the 2 story lines. The movie simply merged Michael’s poor past into football and turned him into a star to cater to a wider audience and be a feel good inspirational movie, while the book gave insight on actual football, the growth of the game, and Michael Oher’s upbringing. In the movie, they completely removed Michael’s life in hurt village, or explain how the projects came to become hurt village. They also took out many of the minor characters like Zach, and all the other little details like how Michael wanted to play basketball like M.J., and how his father went to prison. They also never brought up any details about Oher’s brothers and sisters in the movie. As you can see, they left out major chunks of the book from the movie, completely removing the end of it which talked about his life before meeting the
