It took great grace for Joseph to respond in this manner and it will take great grace for us to respond as well. In these moments you need to decide what you need to do and you have a couple of choices;
(1) Proverbs 17:9 says, “He who covers over an offence promotes love.” In love and with a gracious spirit of forgiveness just ignore the criticism or offensive remark. Get over it – learn what it means to die to yourself and build that bridge everyone is talking about. 1 Peter 4:8 says, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”
To confront the person with their sin against you may not accomplish much – it may complicate the issue even more – but if we are motivated by love and tender spirit we discover that this love of God shed abroad in our hearts actually has the power to cover offence and cover a multitude of insults, slander, criticisms and hurtful comment.
(2) Colossians 3:12-14, “Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect
