The Bucket List
My name is Sarkis Minasakanian and I am an interactionist because I am in support with the interactionist perspective. I will be discussing the interactionist perspective with the movie “The Bucket
List”. In my family, I am the person that guides each member on how to communicate with certain members. I do this because it reduces the chance of an argument or hostility. Certain members of my family do not like each other for past family reasons, but they build a bond when they start communicating with each other, with my guidance. The movie I watched was The Bucket List and I have to say that it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. It shows how a human should appreciate life and

during their trip, they didn’t show much faith in the beginning of their trip, this is an issue. A person in life must have faith because without it, it might make an individual give up and it can hurt a person socially because they might feel depressed and would not want to talk to anyone or interact with them.
This can be described with Carter and Edward because they were both hurt socially, one didn’t interact with his wife that much and the other didn’t have a relationship with his daughter, faith is a must, it benefits an individual when they try and satisfy their social and emotional needs, it gives them a boost.
Our society needs to believe in themselves more, I believe it’s a problem in America. As an interactionist, it would make me very happy if everyone believed in themselves more in America, it’s the society I

There was also an incident when they went to Hong Kong, it involved Edward purchasing a prostitute’s services for Carter, but Carter decided not to do it, I believe that this is where Carter remembered his wife and how he wanted to go home, which is approved in a interactionists point of view because it meant that he wanted to see his wife again, he wanted to interact with her and communicate with her again. He wanted to build that strong bond of love with her again, I truly believe that this is what he wanted. He wanted to feel normal again with his previous life, life before knowing about cancer. This is supported by his wife wanting to have a romantic night with Carter, they wanted that interaction they’ve been missing for so long. This meant that his wife forgave Carter for venturing out with a stranger he just met, her emotions showed that she cared and wanted to reduce their hostility from wanting to have a interactive romantic night. Before this all happened, Carter took Edward to go see his daughter, but he angrily refused and went home, despite Carter trying to prove that family is important and we must communicate with them and interact with them, which is approved in

Family Bonds are important to have because without them people can feel alone. People may not get along with their families but a blood relative isn’t the only family someone can have. For example close friends who you have known for a very long time can be considered family and lots of times are. There are many people out there who have troubles getting along with blood relatives usually because they are so similar it makes them different and causes them to argue. In The Secret Life of Bees Lily Owens doesn’t get along with her Father T.Ray not because they are similar but because Lily is exactly like her mother. T.Ray takes things out on Lily because he lost his wife and his daughter is so similar it kills him inside to see her…

While watching the film there were many moments that struck me as interesting. The first moment that struck me the most was when Jean Reynolds, who is a 51 year old, certified nursing assistant, daughter said she had cancer. That she would not live for long because Jean could not afford to get her daughter treatment. The second moment that struck me was when Barbara Brooks, a 36 year old, single mother said that she was “hustling backwards”. She wants to provide for her children, and is even trying to get further in her education to accomplish this. However every time she advanced there would be something that pulled her back. For example when she got a raise then they took some of her benefits away.…

In this paper, I will be writing of how the development of media, especially pornography and sexting has influenced society’s sexuality. First of all, sexting refers to act of sharing or sending sexually explicit images or words through the use of cellular phones or internet. As the technologies have developed over time, it became much easier for individuals to have access to sexting and pornography. Now, with the rapid development of smart phones, and various applications to download, it became a lot more easier for people to enter the world of pornography. The effect and influence of pornography is almost inevitable and seems almost impossible to put a firm stop to the business due to the great amount of economic power and portion it has on global scale. According to “Top Ten Reviews”, there statistics on pornography reveals that every second, 3,075.64 dollars are spent on it, and 28,258 people view them. “In 2006, $13.33 billion dollars was spent in porn industry and it exceeds the combined revenues of ABC,CBS and NBC. However, it is very difficult to accurately determine the number of dollars spent and gained through the pornographic business, because most of the revenues are created and hidden under the shade of black market. The combination of huge growth of market power and technological advancement has even allowed to push down the average age of viewing sexually explicit videos and pushed up the number of viewers. The reason this industry is able to gain and maintain its great financial power is due to the huge demand by the population. In 2009, Media Research Center shared a result that the word “Porn” was the most used word in the search for the videos in Youtube. The reason I am sharing the results of statistics done by various researches is to show the amount of economic power the business of pornography holds and how so many people demand for the access to them. This paper is not necessarily…

Levels of Sociological Analysis Macrosociology - places the focus on broad features of society. Conflict theory and functionalists use macrosociology. The goal is to examine large scale social forces that influence people. Microsociology - the emphasis is placed on social interaction. The Macrosociological Perspective The Macrosociological Perspective Social structure - the framework of society that was already laid out before you were born. Social structure guides our behavior. People learn certain behaviors and attitudes because of their location in the social structure. Differences are not due to biology, but to people’s location in the social structure. Culture Culture- a group’s language, beliefs, values, behaviors, material objects, and even gestures. Culture is the broadest framework that determines what kind of people we become. The specifics will vary by social location. Social Class To understand people, we must examine the particular social locations that they hold in life. Social class- is based on income, education, and occupational prestige. Social class influences our behaviors, ideas, and attitudes. Social Status…

Functionalism is the theoretical perspective in sociology today that believes society is a whole unit made up of interrelated parts that work together. It is also known as functional analysis and structural functionalism. August Comte and Herbert Spencer first started this idea because they saw society as a living organism. They describe this idea by comparing the organs of an animal or person working together in the body like separate parts of society working as one. These “parts” will only function smoothly if they work together in harmony. Emile Durkheim furthered this idea by stating that society has many parts that are necessary to their own function within society. If all societal functions are fulfilled, society is in a “normal state”. Failing to do so results in an “abnormal” or “pathological” state. To understand this idea in relation to society, one must study the structure and function. Structure is how the parts fit together to make it whole, and the function is what each part does, and how it contributes to society. This idea is not always supported because it suggests that there is a set structure of normality in society, and to change this is causing unnatural, negative affects. It is unrealistic to believe this because change is not always unnatural or negative. Change is vital for societal growth. Example of functionalism being arguable unethical is the belief that women becoming a part of the workforce causes strain on a marriage because it creates a divide in shared ties binding a couple together. This is an offensive, small-minded and sexist belief that lacks a bigger picture and solely blames a change that is viewed as a positive, equal opportunity today.…

Functionalist often use an organic analogy; they say society is like a biological organism. Parsons (1970) identifies three similarities between society and a biological organism. He argues that the organisms such as the human body and society are both self-regulating systems of inter-related, interdependent parts that fit together in order to work successfully (for example, the education system and the state.) They also have a series of needs or the organisms will die, for example, it members must be socialised if society is to continue. However it could be argued that the education system has changed and in some cases, the private system is not linked to the state, this suggests that Parsons Theory is outdated when understanding society as a whole, Merton’s argument is that it is an untested assumption that everything in society depend on each other as there is diverse family types, e.g. one parent families are not necessarily dependant on society.…
