Mary Maloney, a loving and pregnant housewife with many hobbies has recently added a new category to her list of abilities, murder. It was ten minutes till five when Patrick, Mary’s husband, came home from work. She greeted her helpless spouse with open arms and took his things as he took a seat. Mary proceeded with her activities and made drinks for herself and her husband and offered to make a meal for him but, he did not want it. She and her husband talked, he brought up his job and explained how his relationship with her was not good for work. Mary was enraged, but decided not to believe it and continued to make the meal she promised him even though he refused it. She went to get the leg of lamb leaving her husband alone in the living …show more content…
After committing the crime she knew very well what the penalty would be, but not for a pregnant woman. Mary kept herself calm, she got up and continued to make super like nothing happened. She visited the market after realizing she needed more ingredients. When the sinful woman entered the store she had a conversation with the store clerk, who was named Sam, and in the end, never made herself look suspicious. She kept her bright and cheerful act throughout their entire conversation. Then when she returned home after the police arrived, she knew each officer by name and information on them thanks to her husband’s role. Mary used the information gained about crime and penalties from her deceased husband to try to get away with the …show more content…
Before the deceased cop broke the news to his wife she wanted to make him happy but after the news was broke Mary flipped her way completely and killed him. She was not panicking afterward as the simply shrugged it off saying that she had killed him. If this woman really loved her husband she would not have killed him and the only time the witch cried for her beloved husband was around the authorities. Sadly, the cops were fooled by her act and went along with her pathetic requests as she offered them food and drinks. Then when the officers accepted her offers and went in the other room she stayed behind and started giggling at their folly. As one can clearly see her way of thinking is not clouded, it allowed her to get far in her attempt to get away with the murder of her dearest

During the trial, Carolyn Howard, magistrate of the case, was fair in terms of applying the law. What I perceived about her was that she was a very wise magistrate because she never lost control of the situation. On the contrary, she stayed calm and never said anything with disrespect to others. However, from a moral perspective, I think that the case was not fair with the male who was involved in it since he was not the biological father of the child. If I had the opportunity to change the statute, I would rewrite it in some way that the legal father will be able to disestablish paternity and left him away from any responsibility related to the child. Also, I morally believe that the mother is the one who should be responsible for her acts.…

How could Mary be the killer if she wasn’t at the crime scene? According to court documents, “It wasn’t six o’clock yet and the lights were still on in the grocery shop.”(Dahl). It would have been impossible for Mary to commit the crime because she was at the grocery shop when the crime took place. Mrs. Maloney went to the grocery store for some vegetables. The grocer states, “Mrs. Maloney came to the store to purchase vegetables and potatoes, bought two of the potatoes. She seemed happy and calm as she…

Judge and jury, I beg thee to charge Ms. Maloney with the murder of Patrick Maloney. Why would the perfectly stable Mary Maloney randomly decide to kill her husband? What would cause a perfectly sane woman to do such a heinous crime? As you are aware, Patrick Maloney was a well-respected member of the police force. To all who knew him he was a good man. He never had any enemies, and was very committed to his job. So how did this good man end up dead? Supposedly, Mr. Maloney was alleged of having an affair. However, Mr. Maloney is no longer around to testify to that fact. If Ms. Maloney had heard of this alleged affair, maybe that drove her to murder him. There is sufficient evidence showing that Ms. Maloney was the murderess. Number one, there…

On the other hand, Lamb to the Slaughter is a murder case instinctively executed by Mary Maloney, who is the wife to the deceased Patrick Maloney. Although Mary commits the crime after her husband broke the news about the plan to divorce her, she immediately comes to her senses after hitting him “as hard as she could” with a frozen leg of a lamb. She successfully lays down a plan to deceive the police that she was…

I believe that Roald Dahl wants us to think Mrs. Maloney is a victim. I think this because in the story Mrs. Maloney looks to be a nice, kindhearted woman who is devoted to her husband, even though he would ignore her presence when she was speaking to him. "I think it's a shame," she said, "that when someone's been a policeman as long as you have, he still has to walk around all day long." He didn't answer. Although Mr. Maloney ignored his wife and was not interested in what Mrs. Maloney had to say she still continued to speak to him a respectful manner. When Mr. Maloney decided to tell Mary that he was leaving her for another woman she tried to deny his words in her mind. “And he told her. It didn't take long, four or five minutes at most, and she sat still through it all, watching…

Looking at John Cornelly, the plaintiff in this case, I see a young man with a promising future. Cornelly has never been convicted in a court of law of misconduct. Though this is not enough proof of his innocence, it is clear that his conduct was driven by external factors. First, Cornelly has readily admitted that he has had an affair with his class teacher. The latter appeared in criminal proceedings and is awaiting sentencing over rape charges to which she pled guilty. It is clear that Cornelly fell into her trap and this might have been the genesis of his misconduct. Being an adult, the teacher is to blame for the corrupting of this minor. She ought to have protected him from any conduct that was against state law. Cornelly’s possession…

She then continues telling the truth, but Abigail and the other girls tell the court that she is lying. They then start to act as if Mary is a witch or is possessed by the devil. They scream of nonsense such as Mary is a bird, on the ceiling. They then act as if Mary is possessing them and they repeat every word Mary says. Mary starts to get scared and she then realizes that she does not want to be on the opposite team as Abigail is. She then turns her back on the truth and John Proctor. Mary then tells the court that John conjured her to tell these lies. Mary also apologizes to Abigail and tells everyone she is with the Lord now. But really if she was, she would have told the truth not matter what circumstances took place. Mary Warren is a coward and has weak faith in the Lord. Mary could have been the one who saved many innocent people from being accused but she was too scared of one person to do this. Mary changed throughout the story by being a follower, to being wise and doing what is right, to a…

In my opinion, Mary Maloney has lost control. She has killed her husband, Patrick Maloney without knowing the true facts which proves she has lost control. This is shown from the beginning when Patrick Maloney told Mary Maloney something that would change their lives forever. “Her first instinct was not to believe any of it, or reject it all. It occurred to her that perhaps he hadn’t even spoken that she herself had imagined the whole thing” (63). This quote shows how Mary Maloney pretended that nothing happened and went on with her day and started cooking. This proves that she was in denial. Later on in the story, Mary Maloney went to get supper made for her husband and herself. She stopped and looked at her…

One way Mary Maloney is more devious is, she tricked the police into eating the evidence of Patrick’s murder. The text states,"Personally, I couldn't eat a thing, but it'd be a favor to me if you ate it up”(Dahl 4). She tells them to eat the leg of lamb, the weapon used to kill Patrick, to obliterate all evidence of his murder. This is very devious as she tries to avoid getting caught by eating the lamb.…

Despite being present in the woods that night, Mary had only watched as the other girls danced, and she had wanted to tell the truth from the very beginning. However, she was, as always, easily manipulated into going along with the trials, not sure entirely sure if witchcraft was involved. This became apparent when she testified against Abigail in court. When asked to prove that her previous fainting in court was all staged, she explained, “I - I used to faint because I - I thought I saw spirits” (Miller 107). The truth had become so skewed that Mary had become as brainwashed as the rest of the town, believing there were really witches attacking…
