The second line explains that while he was searching he became “bold” which I believe signifies he has gained knowledge from his journey, which comes with growing old. Since knowledge comes with age the line “But he grew old” has two significant meanings. The third line says “o’er his heart a shadow” which from context in the last line the poem is saying he began to figure out he was not going to find Eldorado and he started to become depressed so the shadow over his heart is representing he has become depressed. The last two lines say “No spot on the ground that looked like Eldorado” which means that he is losing the trail of where his love has gone, and the “No spot of ground” is the trail of Eldorado. Since the knight has lost the trail of Eldorado this also strengthens the interpretation he is
