Seuss’s career as a children’s story author led to him winning many awards and gaining international fame. As many people know, Seuss is arguably one of the most influential and respected children’s authors in the world, but many people do not know the stories behind the stories. Nearly all of Seuss’s pieces were inspired by events, scenarios, or thoughts that he experienced in his own life. One such example can be found in his popular book The Cat in the Hat. What led to Seuss writing this book was actually another pair children’s story authors by the names of Dick and Jane. Seuss found that the stories written by Dick and Jane primers were not interesting and did not get children engaged with learning how to read or wanting to learn. As a solution to this, Dr. Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat which was a main cause for the Dick and Jane primers to go out of business and no longer be offered as heavily in public and school libraries. It is apparent that Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax is a statement on environmental issues. Seuss is able to express through this book how he felt as though people were destroying the Earth and natural beauty. The story tells of how man had cut down all the trees in the world and everything had to be manufactured and, as a result, people in charge became greedy and selfish. People in the logging industry were unhappy with how Seuss had made them look evil and corrupt through this story. To appease the loggers, Seuss wrote a similar book titled The Truax.
