Plagiarism, a serious behaviour which usually caught in University and it will have a great consequences if this happen. It is difficult to prevent plagiarism due to the development of internet which students can find loads of information and sample essay. But what is the reason lead to plagiarism? In this essay, I will summarise the point both Sowden (2005) and Liu (2005) have made about factor of plagiarism and to build an argument between them. Firstly, I will talk about the culture factor which is the main claims Sowden made. Then, I will analyse the topic “How original can you be?” Finally, I will move to the suggestion they have made to solve the problem and to have a conclusion.
Sowden (2005) provides a distinguish and evaluation of the idea and language of plagiarism and evaluation of the idea & language of plagiarism and also the copyright information from an article and the issue of originality. Sowden (2005) draws attention to culture differences that the hypothesis role of individual and groups of students. And also copy and reproduce the idea maybe viewed as pointless. Further investigation reveal that student who are not willing to accept the main academic values will be more easy to implement the plagiarism than the people who have a strong integrationist feeling. It is difficult to solve these problems, Sowden (2005) suggests which mainly for multilingual students are oral presentation and general skills training in order to reduce plagiarism.
The culture factor The culture differences point out by Sowden (2005) tells that plagiarism and copy other writing is acceptable in Eastern countries, especially in China. Which result in the Confucian teaching, the philosopher’s word were belonged to every people. Therefore, we can reproduce them and it is an suitable way to mention somebody word or opinion.
