The Character of Hamlet
HAMLET RESPONSE An optimist is a person who usually expects a favorable outcome, they think positively about things. A Pessimist is the complete opposite , a pessimist has a tendency to stress the negative or unfavorable or to take the gloomiest possible view of things. I believe that Hamlet is a pessimist because of what he says and what he thinks of life, as he explains in the soliloquy , “When he himself might his quietus make with a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear”. This quote shows that Hamlet is thinking about the easier way out of despair by killing himself , instead of confronting the problems that are making his life miserable. My opinion on putting up with life is basically this, don't put up with it , you should change or try to avoid whatever is making your life miserable , take action because you don't want to simply “put up” with life, you want to live life and enjoy it with the least amount of problems possible. Now on contemplating suicide, this is an issue that a lot of people have dealt with, I have personally thought about it. You think about how crappy life is, if there is any real reason for you to be on this planet, and if it will get better. It is a stupid thing to think of , because of course it will get better and of course we all have a reason to live, we all just don't know that reason yet. Also when contemplating

suicide most people think about if they do do it how is the afterlife going to be. Is it going to be happy and peaceful ? Or just more crap and misery? This is highly based on what religion you believe in, but the way I see it is when you die you are basically just going into an internal sleep and you would not want to go to sleep angry and full of misery because most likely your dreams will be nightmares. So you should live your life with the least amount of problems and most amount of fun , so you die happily in peace and have good dreams instead of nightmares in your internal sleep.

Suicide. Some imagine the unsuccessful businessman slowly bringing a gun to his head. Some see Romeo and Juliet uniting themselves for eternity though death. Others remember Lifetime Television Movies about women in their twenties who overdose on over the counter pills. But there are as many different reasons for suicide as there are people. Take for example, Jeannine. At the age of 103 Jeannine decided that she had lived a full life. She stopped taking her medications and died a few days later in her sleep. Jeannine was healthy for her age and for the most part able to care of herself. Although she committed suicide, her particular case should not carry the false connotation of misery which often accompanies such deaths. Jeannine was not miserable; she merely chose to consciously and responsibly plan her death.…

If a sketch was to represent Hamlet and his dynamic personality it would have to be where he is comparing his face to a skull. A picture tells a thousand words is a very famous saying, well the same goes for this one. It relates to him in many ways, first and for most it represents his thought of committing suicide. For instance he starts by saying “to be, or not to be”. Moreover her explains “For in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause.” This represents his mental state. Furthermore he is not well mentally. Overall, this graphic is a perfect illustration of Hamlet and his…

Suicide. Just the mentioning of such a word sends shivers down many people’s spines. While it may be not be spoken about, suicide rates seem to be on the rise, and many are doing everything they can to help. According to Pamela Kulbarsh, a psychiatric nurse for over twenty-five and writer of the article “The Epidemiology of Suicide: Who is most likely to take their life own life?” suicide has been coined “the most preventable death” (7). Suicide prevention and treatment, however, is by no means a new concept.…

Understandably, the intense relationship between Hamlet and his uncle is not a sturdy bond, even before Hamlet learnt of his father’s murder, and before Claudius began to fear for his safety. It is believed that Hamlet’s distrust and dislike towards Claudius sprung from his mothers “o’erhasty marriage” 2.2.57 and would certainly be the origins of Hamlet’s suspicions. The best scene in which to view the relationship of Hamlet and Claudius would be Scene 3 of Act 4, where Claudius confronts Hamlet about the murder of Polonius.…

In the play Hamlet, written by Shakespeare, the main character Hamlet is often described as a hero. There are 6 criterion for a Shakespeare play to be considered a tragedy; the hero is a man of outstanding quality, the hero has a tragic flaw, the hero’s downfall is a result of his own choice, the audience has a “sad sense of wasted human potential”, the hero has an increase in awareness and a gain in self knowledge, and the audience experiences a cycle of good and bad emotions towards mankind. Hamlet is a great example of a tragic hero, one of his greatest attributes is also his biggest downfall.…

The play Hamlet is without a doubt an odd story to read based on what society today has become accustomed to. A brother killing another brother, and then marrying his wife. It is not a typical story in the modern world today. There is a vast variety of different themes that can be traced throughout the play, however the most popular is madness and sanity. Madness and sanity shape the play into what it is, without madness and sanity the play would have no life. Certain actions would not occur, certain events would not occur, and certain statements would not occur. Hamlet is a perfect example in the thought of is he acting insane or is he truly insane?…

In Hamlet, many think of Hamlet as being the main or only tragically flawed character within the play. However, in actuality, the play contains many other characters that possess varying severities of imperfection, some of which put the shortcomings of Hamlet, the title character of Hamlet, to shame. Despite the tragically flawed nature of Hamlet’s character, other characters in the play are clearly more flawed in comparison to Hamlet. As a result of this character’s imperfection, many of the characters within the play Hamlet are considered tragic; however, those in which this trait is predominant are Claudius, Laertes and Gertrude.…

Suicide is the ultimate act of selfishness an individual can commit because it leaves those who care behind wondering why. Even though, at that point in time of one’s action one does not think of anything but them self. In the background there sits those who care and love you, such as parents, children, spouses, and friends. As loved ones left behind they wonder why you had to do what you did, why they never noticed any signs, and was there not something they could have done to prevent this from happening. Tragically most loved ones wind up being totally in the dark for the rest of their lives.…

Hamlet’s mind at first glance is not all it appears to be. One would believe Hamlet to be completely insane with everything that had transpired against him. The loss of his father and his mother’s hasty marriage should have driven his mind to utter desolation and insanity, but on the contrary these events only enhanced the fortitude of his mind and intellect. Hamlet’s ability to form coherent thoughts and his clear use of diction express his sanity; the weight of avenging his father’s death and woes over his mother’s betrayal have affected his emotions, but have not corrupted his mind.…

    The Ethics of Hamlet

In Hamlet's first soliloquy, "To be or not to be", Hamlet appears to be governed by reason as he debates whether or not it is one's right to end his or her life. Hamlet begins by weighing out the advantages and disadvantages of existence. In his words, "Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them?"(III.i.57-60). Hamlet is struggling. Living in Misery is a major issue for Hamlet as he copes with the death of his father. From this passage, we are led to believe that Hamlet favors suicide over life. Suicide is an act believed to be punishable by damnation. Similarly, the mystery of life after death presents Hamlet with a fear of the unknown. For these reasons, Hamlet is hesitant and forced to re-analyze the situation. Clearly, Hamlet is engaging in a philosophical dilemma where he uses intellect and logic to seek for an alternative solution to his misery. Hamlet's ethical nature is revealed by his thoughts. All in all, Hamlet is struggling with the knowledge of good and evil.…
