Numerous procedures he discovered were not given names to state that he pioneered them. For example, the “Walcher position” of childbirth by a German doctor in the 19th century; and the “Kocher method” for fixing dislocated shoulders was invented by al-Zahrawi but acknowledged by later European physicians.Regardless, al-Zahrawi’s contributions to medicine and especially surgery were revolutionary for his time. Without the procedures and tools that he pioneered, surgery today may have been very different. His ability to consistently record procedures has helped advance medicine for centuries.
