Negative to positive Being different is something that people in society seem to not understand and I believe it scares them. Society has standards and expects something out of all of us, and when someone or something is different, society tries to push it out. Racism has been something that goes way back, and has caused laws to be made. Unfortunately racism still continues today, even with the laws that were made. My question in particular is why does the color of someone’s skin looked upon so negatively by our society? Even if race is looked upon by our society as negative as it is, people don’t understand that we are all the same and nothing has ever been different but our skin color. In the 1800’s and 1900’s race was such a huge thing. Black American’s were made out to seem like they were not equal to the white and got treated very harshly, and got the short end of the stick. White folks made it clear that in their minds, they were above the blacks, and deserved better. They got to sit …show more content…
in the front of the bus, have their own restroom, have their own water fountains, and lastly have better schooling and job opportunities. All of these negative things influenced black American’s to have such hatred and distance from one another, but little did they know we are all American’s and had to stand together, not fight one another over something that had happened such a long time ago. But not only do Black American’s get looked down upon by the color of their skin, many other ethnicities do as well and all that does is divide us and push all other races from coming together 2
I being Mexican myself know what it’s like to be called out by the color of my skin or the way I looked. I’ve heard things like beaner, white boy, Asian and many other things that had a negative impact on me. Even with all these names I have been called I always thought to myself why am I being judged? What makes you better than me that you get to call me out by my physical features? Were from the same city, state, let alone same country! You can’t be better than me, you and I are exactly the same just a different skin color. Our parents were born here, have jobs and even pay bills to the same government! Just because your lighter than me or darker doesn’t make you better in any way, and that’s what our society today does not seem to understand. Black American’s are honestly the one race that deals with this abuse the worse. In our society, being African American and being somewhere at the wrong time could end up with you going to jail, because “Blacks” are put in a category that they steal, kill, shoot, and cause nothing but chaos.
Sometimes it doesn’t seem to come across as racist to some people, like putting Asians in the category that they’re always smart because that’s how Asians are. Mexicans are categorized as only being good at cleaning, cooking, cutting grass, and growing crops. Whereas Arabs, Germans, and Koreans are known as terrorists and enemies of the country because of what has happened in the past. All of these classifications seem like nonsense because they just make a negative aspect of all ethnicities and stereotyping needs to stop so it can strengthen us not only as American’s, but as equals because for this nation to ever have a chance of getting rid of this racial profiling is to come together. Our children today also play an extremely huge role of us coming
together. 3
Children are known as the future of this country and they truly are. They have so much cheer, innocence and acceptance than we do. It’s almost like nothing can ever bring them down or discourage them. They have the chance to right our wrongs and accomplish so much more than we ever could not only future tech wise, but ethnicity wise. My senior year I had the chance to be a teacher’s aide at my little sisters school for their field day event and was the most amazing sight I have ever seen. There were children of every race there laughing, playing, getting along, and overall having an amazing time. Not one single child of different ethnicity was left alone, singled out or being picked on. At that time I really didn’t think much about it but looking back, it has opened my eyes to look forward for the future because as we get older race would not be so looked down upon as it does right now because our children wouldn’t care about it. So yes I believe children play the most important role in Americas racial profiling and have a chance to turn something so negative into a positive. All in all we shouldn’t judge anyone just because the color of their skin or the way they look. Yes we are all different on the outside but that doesn’t mean we can’t be the same on the inside. America as I see it in my eyes is trying to get better at showing everyone that each and every person is equal and it doesn’t matter if you’re Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, Etc. Even if we had such negative things affect us we shouldn’t allow it come between us and turn it into something positive.
