The Compromise of 1877 showed the end of reconstruction. Reconstruction was a failure because the United States had failed to Economically get the south back up on its feet. Also It failed in because Harper Rutherford became president and new government approach was made. Appointing a new democrat to the cabinet was one of the deals of the Compromise of 1877. When the Compromise of 1877 happened Redeemers resumed political control of the south continuing to treat the blacks badly. And Jim Crow Laws were put into place.

But in reality the facilities were really unequal. Schools, rail cars, theaters, and restrooms were segregated. Blacks were treated as second class citizens. The different facilities were not equal colored schools were in a worse condition than white schools people in rail cars were not allowed to sit down, they had to be in the back of the bus. This type of treatment started many new movements in the United States. For example the progressive movement the Progressives fought to make the United States a better place.
Progressive Era Late 1980s
The Progressives had many goals. They wanted to increase democracy in America by curbing the power of the corporations. The Progressives fought to bring an end to the corruption of the government and business. They also worked hard on equal rights for women and other groups in the United States of America. These type of beliefs lead to the creation of the Muckrakers. They to wanted to see change in America by exposing the negative things that happen in the country. These type of people got the attention of president Roosevelt.

One important thing of the New Deal programs was that it tried to bring back jobs as many were lost in the end of the First World War. The New Deal programs featured many that brought employment, improved America's infrastructure, and tried to help farmers that were struggling with the sudden decline of food needed. When the New Deal came to an end unemployment rates started to rise again but around the same time World War 2 started and jobs were on a rise
