It is the 21st century and the practice of medicine is so advanced, that people are forgetting the basic tools. For example, when people get a fever, they automatically take some type of medication, such as Advil, to make the fever go away. What they do not know, is that when a fever is present, the best initial thing to do is drink a lot of water and rest. People are so eager to get better, they do not know that their
body is actually trying to balance their body temperature by sweating. People rely on medicine to the point they forget their immune system is there to help.
I grew up in a household where there was a minimal of medication laying around. My parents’ believed in self-healing and natural ingredients to relieve any sickness. I barely used any cough syrup when I had a cold, or any pills when I had cramps or a fever. For instance, when I had a cold, they would make me hot tea with honey and ginger, with a side of porridge to eat and let me rest. But the next day after, they would make me get up and be active; Exercise is important to get the heart beat pumping and the immune system running. Surprisingly, all of these simple mechanisms made me feel better and it never made me think about taking medicine. The most curative technique people have is simply being active, eating properly and letting their body do most of the healing. The practice of medicine is becoming progressive and the most common thing people do is to use it as much as they can, but they cannot always rely on it. What people put inside their body and how they take care of it, is the ultimate way of healing.
