The documentary, The Cove, is a film which demonstrates the cruelty and abuse done to the Dolphins, held captive in a Japanese Lagoon. After, discovering more about the intelligence, advancement and innocence the dolphins possess, I began to agree more with Ric O’Barry argument that dolphins should not be hunted in Japan and the world.
As stated previously, dolphins have an extraordinary intelligence that can be used to further scientists’ research on aquatic ecosystem food chains, interactions and development. In addition, dolphins also provide marine scientists with information on the chemical levels within water because of the variety of marine life they consume. When under examination and testing, the …show more content…
Once the dolphins had been caught and placed into their farms, they swim around inside their own fecal matter, and disease. The dolphins are also constantly being separated from their families and begin to emote depression through their body language and daily activities. Moreover, when the time has come to collect dolphin meat, the slaughter men stab the dolphin at the top of their head with a spear and stab them on the sides once put into the boat, leaving a bloody body of water for the remaining dolphins to swim in. Overall, the environment the dolphins are put into once in captivity, cause emotional and physical distress onto the dolphins.
Ric O’Barry noticing the poor treatment of dolphins and acting upon it with a team, represent examples of being good global citizens. Although, Ric and his activist team broke a few laws to gain more evidence on the dolphin cruelty in Japan, he did it for a good cause. Ric’s goal was to bring attention to the situation and eventually put a stop to it or limit it as much as possible, which he ended up achieving (limiting the dolphin hunting). Ric also tried to amplify that we need to value dolphins and their contribution to marine life, science development and their overall intelligence and
