“I am going to prove that am not stupid.” He wants to prove that he isn’t stupid. This level of isolation for himself from the rest like at school is very evident in the text. “Sometimes when I want to be on my own I get into the airing cupboard outside the bathroom and slide in beside the boiler and pull the door closed behind me and sit there and think for hours and it makes me feel very calm.” Christopher as shown in the text, loves to think of stuff like mathematical questions and calculation when he is physically isolated. He does this to ‘calm’ down his brain as he states it. He also doesn’t like any physical contact even by his family members to him because of this, his family members don’t hug him but instead have come up with a special way to show that they love him. However character wise, he is not that isolated as it may be thought. He shares some characteristics with his father in the text. “We are the same Christopher,” his father told him. This shows that his father does understand him and his characteristics.
