In the reading assigned: “The Dangerous Consequences of Growing Inequality” the idea of wealth distribution is discussed. The reading speaks on how the decline of leisure time among the ninety-nine percent is steadily increasing. The statistics state that wages are lower for the working class than ever before while the income for the one percent upper-class increase exponentially. One example used by the other was the illustration of the ten individuals playing musical chairs. At one time everyone had a chair hence wealth was distributed equally. In the second illustration, one man had the majority of the chairs while the other 9 struggled to sit in the two. Chairs symbolized the wealth and how it was distributed.

Over my childhood I only remember really seeing my dad on the weekends and at night. My father was in the home but because of work he was absent. He was given raises at his job, but this was nowhere near enough money for the time he was spending away from us. As the use of the internet increased my father works even more now. What was a nine to five is now a 24/7 job. My father’s boss calls him when he is at home about work. He is required to do work at home as well as on site. Once again, more time devoted to the job without pay to compensate. This is sad because this is the standard these days. Teachers teach all day and when they get home the grade all night and get little sleep. The next morning the vicious cycle starts again. Do you get paid for the work you do outside of work?
