The nation's addiction to constant communication has lead to a crisis on the roads. Texting and driving has become the new drunk driving. Experts have found, that drivers travel the length of a football field at 55 miles per hour without looking at the road. Many teens as well as adults, have formed a habit of being on their phones while driving. It is dangerous and the chances of getting in an accident are very high. The government has noticed and taken action on these dangers. Texting and driving laws are put in place to try and
protect people from distracted drivers. Minnesota’s has set firm laws towards texting and driving in a try to prevent danger on the roads.
Before laws towards texting and driving were set drivers didn’t have to hide the fact that they were texting and driving. If a police officer saw someone texting while driving they couldn’t do anything about it because it was not illegal. Now texting and driving is illegal drivers have to hide the activity, so instead of the phone being held above the steering wheel where there is still partial view of the road ahead, the phone is hidden under the wheel or in one's lap where the driver has no view of the road. The result of this behavior is deadly.
