1. a) You can determine the turtle’s species by the upper shell brown/reddish brown color, the lower shell creamy/yellow color, body skin brown/yellow color, the rusty brown scales on their head, and the weight and length of the turtle varying from 77-227 kilograms and 1.2 meters.…
The Snapping Turtle has a giant shell on is back that protects it from its very few predators. When the Snapping turtle is in the water it is relatively docile and doesn't go looking for trouble, but on land it is very aggressive because it's very slow.…

There are a lot of spiritual meanings with animals and nature within these stories. However, how they explain and how they celebrate these meanings is different. Within The Earth on Turtle’s Back they say how the animals can talk and that they are able to dive to bring the earth up.…
Box turtles also known as box tortoises have four recognized species, the common box turtle, the coahuilan box turtle, the spotted box turtle, and the ornate box turtle. The box turtle can be recognized by its domed shell, which is hinged at the bottom, making it possible for the turtle to close its shell to keep predators out. The female Box Turtles usually have a yellowish, brown eyes while the males usually have red or orange…
The three short stories- When Grizzlies Walked Upright, The Earth on Turtle’s Back, and The Navajo Origin Legend – all share a similar concept. The story The Earth on Turtle’s Back talks about before Earth even existed everything was water and there were birds and animals that swam around. Up, above the clouds, was a skyland where humans lived. In the end of this short story a small little muskrat brings up land from underneath the water and gives the chief’s wife a place to stand and live. In which she drops seeds to make trees and plants grow and so on. This explains the origin of how land was formed on Earth. The next story, When Grizzlies Walked Upright, talks about how a chief moved down to earth to live because he got tired of living in the bitter cold sky, but his…
The Loggerhead Sea Turtle is a beautiful creature that many marine biologists in today’s world love to study. It is the world’s largest hard shelled turtle, belonging to family Cheloniidae. Its scientific name is Caretta Caretta. The Loggerhead can be found all around the world in many different habitats. Although they are the most abundant marine turtle in the U.S., they have been on the threatened species list since 1978. This is due to many factors, a couple being: pollution and trawling.(National Geographic)…
Rosie was the proud owner of an Eastern Box Turtle! Excitement radiated from her as she read through the Wikipedia pages and turtle forums I had found. She could not believe how much there was to learn about the baby turtle she had found in her backyard. After an hour of passionate debate on the diet of the Eastern Box Turtle, she left the lab to brag about what she had learned. I had come to the senior center expecting to teach some lethargic retirees how to create email accounts, but I left reminded of the unbridled joy that comes from learning and teaching. As I have progressed through high school I have used Rosie’s infectious energy as inspiration in my life. Her enthusiasm has pushed me to go past the curriculum and share my passions…
In 1947 it was reported that over 40,000 Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles were nesting along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico and today only 200 Kemp Ridley’s remain on those grounds, making these sea turtles one of the most endangered animals in the United States. When I was younger I remember visiting South Padre Island and seeing holes a long the shore line with little eggs inside them, I also remember this man who drove up and down the beach looking for those eggs in a golf cart. I asked my mom “Why is this man taking away these eggs, won’t the momma be sad?” my mom then told me that these were in fact the eggs of the Kemp’s Ridley. I had no idea how that was relevant, I was six…
The hawksbill is a smaller sea turtle with a narrow head and 2 pairs of prefrontal scales in front of its eyes. It is different than other sea turtles in that its jaw is not serrated. The hawksbill bony carapace has no ridges, but has large, overlapping scales and 4 lateral scales, and the overall carapace shape is that of an ellipse. 2 claws can be seen on every flipper. The color of carapace varies from orange, brown or yellow, while hatchlings are mostly brown with pale blotches on scales.…
There are many endangered species in the world among these species is the Eretmochelys imbricata, commonly known as the Hawksbill Sea Turtle. The Hawksbill Sea Turtle has a lifespan of about 30 to 50 years. The turtle is an omnivore and consumes sea grasses, sea urchins, barnacles, small animals, and their favorite food, sponges (National Wildlife Federation). Regardless of their lifespan and diet, these turtles are dying quicker than normal because of the human race. According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Hawksbill Sea Turtle is classified as critically endangered (Plos One). This means that the turtle has become especially susceptible to extinction worldwide. The Hawksbill Sea Turtle is found in the tropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Nevertheless, this sea turtle stays away from deep waters and would rather stay near the coastlines where sponges and nesting sites are close by (National Geographic). This way they are able to…
Section 1: Manatees belong to the order Sirenia, which also includes the manatee’s relative in the Pacific, the dugong, (Dugongdugon). Sirenians evolved from four-footed land mammals more than 60 million years ago. The presence of tiny pelvic bones in manatees, shaped differently in males and females, is evidence of their terrestrial ancestry. The closest modern relatives of the Sirenia are elephants, aardvarks, and hyraxes, small furry mammals that resemble rodents. These animals are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows. They are varied in color from dull gray to brown or black. They all have stout, tapered bodies ending in a flat, rounded tail used for forward propulsion. The forelimbs are modified into flippers; there are no hind limbs. There are three accepted living species of Trichechidae, representing three of the four living species in the order Sirenia: the Amazonian manatee (Trichechus inunguis), the West Indian manatee (Trichechus manatus), and the West African manatee (Trichechus senegalensis.…
One pride that American culture values most is individualism; where one is self-reliant. However, individualism has taken its own course and developed over time. Previously, individualism was based on one’s own values and morals where they based their lives on their own ideals. The ideal of individualism developed into a set of morals and ideals of one individual in which their values and morals spreads to society.…
“What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail” (Unknown)? No person can say or do anything without one taking it too personal and getting offended by it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and belief but that does not mean they have the one correct opinion. Everyone has a story or background about their life that few people know about. Everyone has worked hard for something and failed. So why is it now people are constantly in disagreement with others beliefs and think they have some sort of say in it? Social media makes it easy for people to argue without talking in person. Society has brainwashed people into thinking that only one way is right—even though everyone has different pasts and perspectives. People need to…
