“Your true success in life begins only when you make the commitment to become excellent at what you do.”-Brian Tracy.
In high school, we are prepared to take on the real world. We take classes that are beneficial to helping us become successful in the real world. At Barton High School, we have a specific class that will completely help us in our future career success. This class is called “Senior Seminar.” In Senior Seminar each unit is dedicated to the help us prepare for the real world. This class offers instructions on how to fill out college applications, manage stress, and test-taking skills. We are also required to do an elevator speech so that we can properly know how to present ourselves. in fact, we …show more content…
have to learn our social security numbers, created our own resumes, and many more things. The most important thing that we have done in this class is read a book about change, we watched movies on how to deal with racism, and we also watched a movie on how you can make a worldwide movement by just helping one person. “Who Moved My Cheese,” was one of the books we read in this class. In this book, we learned about how sometimes we have to change in order to adapt to the new challenge we may face in the real world.
We watched a movie called “Stand and Deliver;” in this movie, there were some students that were taking AP Calculus with a new teacher. The students were not academically where they were supposed to be at first, so the teacher prepared the students for the exam and they all passed with 3’s,4’s, and 5's. The state then accused them of cheating because they were all the same race which was Latino, they all ended up missing the same questions, and they were from a very bad school. The students then retook the AP Calculus exam and they all ended up passing once again. My purpose for talking about the book and the movie is to show how “Senior Seminar” is very beneficial in the educational pathways for career success. This class teaches us, and it allows us to be able to experience and learn about some of the things we will need to know in order to fulfill a successful career. The school also used to offer a program that students could attend which also prepared us for college. This program was called G.E.A.R. U.P. which means Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. This Gear Up we were given the opportunity to build roller coasters, construct our dream homes, and we
were also taught life skills. With all of these different skills, we were very prepared to pursue a great future and we were also able to experience the college life. Gear up took us to different universities so that we can experience the college life, and so that we could know the qualifications we would need in order to get everything we need to attend different universities. Barton High School and the different programs that are offered to our school helps us to pursue a proper and great educational pathway in order to be successful in our careers.
