Even though the same parents raise siblings, the specific environment that they are raised in differs from child to child. Once a second child comes along, they inadvertently become the role model to the younger sibling. They have a standard to live up to so that their younger sibling will follow suit. This is why first-born children tend to be more responsible and take a leadership role, sometimes even seen as bossy (Krauss, 2013).
I think that many parents will in avertedly raised their children based around these stereotypes. I myself am a first-born and I am more responsible than my younger brother is. My parents know I will get things done and will therefore usually ask me over my brother when it comes to more important things.
These categories however, are very broad and people love to make connections to their own lives and fit themselves into categories (Beck, 2015). That is why birth order is not an exact science and does not suit everyone. People are raised in different ways and in different environments and become their own people.
