Dexter then realizes his search for happiness was love but his pursuit of the wealth conflicted with his chance of finding happiness.
Another story where someone found the American dream was in the story, “ His Father’s Earth”, in this story a young man imagines if he followed the circus and what he thought was his dream job and in doing so he found the American dream he found success in his craft, bargaining, and he found happiness in doing so. He found that his dream was to be loved and whether he had followed the circus and gathered up food or stayed home that he would be loved.
So maybe the so-called “American dream” is an illusion and the true definition is to find happiness in what you do in life and to achieve happiness through your dreams. In the stories “The Egg” and “Winter Dreams’ the author often achieved their goal but never truly found happiness and in these stories they often thought it was because they didn’t have enough wealth but it was often because they were chasing the wrong dream they chased the dream of wealth instead of Happiness and therefore they never truly found success, but within the last story “His Father's Earth”, the boy found happiness through the pursuit of dream and in return
