Domestic abuse is commonly overlooked, not just by courts or authoritative figures, but by the people involved and surrounding the situation. Domestic abuse can be put into one whole term or an umbrella term, as in something that is a basic or simplified version of all the details. The Power and Control wheel made by the Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (DAIP) shows 8 ways domestic abuse is handled. Oftentimes, people will have very little to practically no information on the subject, causing them to think domestic abuse is quote unquote “physical abuse between a marital or romantic partner.” However, there are many smaller details that go into more specifics.
