I’m straddling the fence, I disagree and agree with the Lil Wayne’s statement. I believe that racism is still alive and that it is very current in today’s society. It seems almost every day, I turn on the news or go on social media a see another story about police brutally happening. Or another story about racism happening around the world. When is racism going to end. We as humans can change the outcome if we are willing to do so. When will we see past a persons’ color of their skin and accept them for themselves. When will we be able to just move on. A prime example of racism is on June 17th 2015, in Charleston South Carolina Dylann Roof took nine people lives during their Wednesday night bible study. Maina Kiai a human rights lawyer spent seventeen days traveling to the United States to get his outlook on our country’s crisis.
He takes a deeper approach on how to understand why our country is suffering so much. He states that the “Black lives Matter” movement is a non-violent movement about how black lives are just as important. Also he proclaims that for these movements to protest they must go through hoops. Mr. Kiai states “When a right is subjected to a permit or authorization requirement, it becomes a privilege rather than a right.” He believes that when these movement groups don’t have ask for the right protest they have somewhat of say. The article expresses Kiai perspective on racism issues as an
outsider.
Lil Wayne may look out in crowd and see a mixture of people, but his music brings all types of people together. Music brings a common interest to others. So Lil Wayne perspective is correct as well. Growing up my parents always taught me that we are all equal. Everyone has a purpose on this earth. When I look at someone I need to look at the person’s inner beauty and not their color of their skin. Because racism was not allowed in my house. Hopefully this era of racism will end very soon.
