In the period between 1450 and 1750, Japan underwent many changes in its political and social structure. After a period of chaos, a powerful family rose up and took control of the nation, establishing a new Shogunate and bringing a period of peace and stability to Japan.…
Japan is located on the eastern edge of the Eurasian Plate. The Pacific Plate, which is an oceanic plate, subducts the Eurasian plate, which is a continental plate, to the east of Japan. This type of plate margin is known as a destructive plate margin. The process of subduction is not smooth. Friction causes the Pacific Plate to stick. Pressure builds and is released as an earthquake.…

One of Japan’s many problems was its physical geography. Japan’s land is over 75% mountainous and has over 80 active volcanoes. The lack of flat land means that is difficult for them to build vital roads for transport. Its weather and climate can cause problems such as severe storms called typhoons – there can be over 30 of these a year. These can interrupt building projects and cause severe damage to the people and their houses. Another problem Japan has is its tectonic activity. It is situated on the border of 4 different plates which causes many natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. Oil is also an issue in Japan as it does not have any natural resources to provide it, so oil has to be imported.…

Japan’s culture is rich in history that dates back as far as 100,000 years ago by historians, however official studies dating back to 8,000 years ago. Japan as we know it today is a group of islands located in the eastern part of Asia. While it is now a highly populated island filled with large cities, this was not always the case. The earliest people known to live on the islands of Japan were nomadic hunters from northeast Asia. These hunters settled on the islands as early as 35,000 B.C. and are considered the Paleolithic people of Japan. During this time, Japan was connected to Korea and Siberia by a land bridge that had formed when the seas receded after the ice ages. When the last ice age ended, the ice caps melted and the sea levels rose, once again separating the islands of Japan from the main land. This gave birth to the one of the earliest periods of Japan known as the Jomon Period.…
Japan is a small island nation off the coast of Eastern Asia. Despite its size, Japan has proved to be formidable both economically and militarily. Since the expedition of Commodore Matthew Perry in 1853 opened up the past feudalistic and reclusive Japan, this nation has expanded and adopted many imperialistic policies as well as taken a more aggressive military stance. Japan has changed in many ways, but has also continued upholding traditional practices throughout 1853 and 1941.…
One would think that a country would inevitably fall from peasant riots, wars for power, lack of resources, etc., if it was isolated from the rest of the world. However, this is not always the case, as can be seen with Japan. It thrived while being isolated from the rest of the world for over two hundred years before it opened its ports again. It is important to understand the context behind Japan’s isolation starting in the Sengoku period. This time period was also known as the “Age of Warring States,” in which landowners or daimyos fought each other for power (Dobbs).…
1) The first evidence Wegner was able to find was the remarkable number of close affinities of geologic features on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. He found the continental margins of the subequatorial portions of Africa and South America fit together with jigsaw-on-like precision. He also determined that the petrologic records on both sides of the Atlantic show many distributions- such as ancient coal deposits-that would be continuous if the ocean did not intervene.…
