Chapter 1
Introduction:
Most people believed that plastics and glass are one of the main wastes every day, but they don’t know that these wastes may help lessen the damages of different catastrophes specifically earthquakes and fires through a hollow block that used in building infrastructures. What is the difference between a commercial cement block to a hollow block mainly composed of plastics and glass?
The hollow block mainly composed of plastics and glass varies in different ways to a pure cement hollow block: * The hollow block mainly composed of plastics and glass is less costly compare to commercial hollow block * The hollow block mainly composed of plastics and glass is more eco-friendly compare to commercial hollow block * The hollow block mainly composed of plastics and glass is more time consuming to make compare to commercial hollow block
Many people used pure cement hollow block in making buildings but this research aims to make a more durable and fire retardant hollow block in making infrastructures.
Background:
The glass contains lime, magnesium oxide, and aluminum oxide that add more durability. Barium also increases the refractive index and low dispersion that make it endure shock. Plastics contain stabilizing additives that include fire retardants to lower the flammability of a material. These 2 combined with the components of making a hollow block will make it more durable and can endure shock and fire.
Statement of the Problem:
Objective: To determine the feasibility of using glass and plastic to produce an earthquake resistant and fire retardant hollow block.
Does a hollow block mainly composed of plastics and glasses more durable and fire retardant compare to commercial hollow blocks?
Hypothesis:
Alternative Hypothesis: The glass bottles and plastic cases can make a more durable and
