The Five Basic Management Skills
The five basic management skills; technical, human relations, conceptual, time management, and decision making are all important in order to carry out the four functions of management successfully.
Technical skills are needed in planning because you need to have extensive knowledge in your firm’s particular field in order to develop successful plans for your business. You would need these skills in organizing because you have to know the best way to organize resources to complete a task. This skill is needed for leading in order to have an expectation for an employee and to know how the job needs to be done in order to be successful. Technical skills are needed for controlling in order to monitor a firm’s performance and make the necessary adjustments. For example if you owned a theme park you probably wouldn’t be building the rides.
Human relation skills are needed in planning to communicate to employees to carry out the plans for the business. You would need these skills in organizing because you need to manage your labour hours. This skill is needed for leading to keep employees motivated to do their best at work. Human relation skills are necessary in controlling in order monitor employee performance and communicate any adjustments. An example would be working alongside entry level employees and make necessary adjustments.
Conceptual skills are needed in planning because managers must access the company’s situation and look beyond that to develop goals and innovating ideas in order to grow the company. You would need these skills in organizing in order to determine how jobs will be implemented to perform a task. This skill is needed for leading to guide employees to meet the firm’s objectives. Conceptual skills are key in controlling in order to develop a company’s goals and values. An example would be if your sales dropped after new competition came to your business and you had to think of new ways to improve your business in order to separate yourself from
