At some point in our lives we have all encountered art. When thinking about the topic of art, creations such as paintings, drawings, and sculptures run through our minds. In today’s society, art is extremely prevalent. There are now more mediums than ever, which people can utilize to produce breath-taking artworks. Though everyone is familiar with art, people have difficulty coming up with a set definition for the term. Art is not the same as it was in the past, and is different throughout various parts of the globe. Some people are interested to get a deeper understanding of the concept and learn why it doesn’t have a specific definition.…

At the time Duchamp was a board member of the Society of Independent Artists. After much debate by the board members (most of whom did not know Duchamp had submitted it) about whether the piece was or was not art, Fountain…
What makes a piece of art art? Is it the creation itself or is it a combination of elements that make a piece a good piece of art. Artist use elements to add depth and meaning to the pieces they create. Artist such as Vincent Van Gogh, Sol LeWitt, Diego Velazquez, and Edward Hopper all had pieces that they used different forms to help capture the attention of the viewer and express their true meaning with the techniques they used in their portraits.…
Before we entered the expansive project on allusions, I knew just as much about allusions as Dr. Doofenshmurtz* did about taking over the world. Although, researching the topic and reading detailed examples helped expand my total knowledge around the subject. Consequently, I began to find allusions in books I was reading at the time and continue to make connections while reading. The project helped increase my knowledge of unknown allusions that writers make in their stories. The strenuous component during the project was discovering allusions. For example, The Fountain of Youth is believed to be a spring that has the ability to restore the youth of anyone who drinks or bathes in the water. I found one connection, the use of botox and bodily…
There are several meanings for the term, "art". Art comes in many different forms, like paintings, sculptures, poetry, film, etcetera. It serves as a vessel for storytelling and projects the relationship between man and its surroundings by utilizing their vision and creativity. Unfortunately, society at times fails to understand the meaning and rejects it. There was one particular installation that surprisingly caused controversy. The piece was called the, "Tilted Arc", constructed by the minimalist sculptor Richard Serra. The location of where the installation was placed caused tension and debate. I believe that the installation should have not triggered such a hostile reaction, because he was a noteworthy artist…

Marcel Duchamp was born on July 28th, 1887 in France. He is most famous for his ready-made artwork called “Fountain” 1917, a urinal which was not made by Duchamp, the only modification made to the urinal was a signature signed by Marcel Duchamp which was not his. This caused controversy over whether this was really an artwork. In saying this, Marcel Duchamp, his ready-mades (‘Bicycle Wheel”1913 and “Fountain”1917) and the use of the post-modern frame can help prove that ‘Artists are no longer the makers of their art but have become manages and coordinators’.…
To begin to understand Marcel Duchamp’s specific piece of art “The Fountain” I delved deep into the history behind the Dada movement, from which Duchamp thrived. This began with an in depth look at Western Europe during World War I, The Dada’s reaction to the World War, and more specifically Marcel Duchamp’s reaction to the World War. As stated in the book, “no single event influenced the development of modern as profoundly as World War I.”…
Viewer in the Marcel Duchamp’s Nude Descending art work did not understand the art work because they could not find a woman in the work. The artist did not post an actual woman in the painting. The work was a collection of jagged, flat forms that overlap in a shallow space. Viewers in the Michelangelo’s David art work did not appreciate the work. They felt it was disrespectful. The nudity of the man on the image was objectionable.…
The In-depth Artist of the What was Fountain originally submitted for and what happened to it? The 1917 urinal aka Fountain was originally put on display during a show promoting Avant grade art. Avant grade means advance guard which is a military term. Avant garde was art movement which originated in France in 1850 in order to open the eyes and more so, make fun of or shock the average or elite viewer. To put an everyday, ordinary item on display and call it art. For many of the upper class directors of the showing, this piece was ridiculous and they did not understand it and thought it an insult of sorts. Shortly after its first and only exhibit, the Fountain just happened to vanish. This particular piece was one of the more remembered pieces of these ready-mades that Duchamp produced. Other artists from 1850, which was the beginning of the Avant Garde Movement, to approximately 1970, also had well known pieces of art that was displayed to the elite, rich, and upper class viewers, including Andy Warhol, Rockefeller and Basquit. The pieces were to rattle there conscience and make them look deeper at ordinary pieces and more or less humble them in a way or make fun of their elite, snobbish, uptight, society waysSalvador Dali The Love of Zero, a 1927 film by Robert Florey. Is a piece of art like the Fountain plagiarism or is it art by virtue of selection? The piece of art similar to the Fountain could be considered plagiarism by some because the originality of the piece was not created by the artist themselves but by someone else. The artist merely used another persons ordinary, everyday invention or household item per say and displayed it as a piece of art. The ordinary item then transformed from the ordinary item with a humble use and purpose to a piece of art on display causing the viewer to search deeper for what the artist might have meant by using it. The same piece could also be considered Art by virtue of selection as well. Being that the particular art piece…

One common objection is that graffiti is not art because it is vandalism and hence a criminal act. While it is true that it can be vandalism and a criminal act, these facts would not seem to have a bearing on its status of being art. The mere fact that something is illegal or classified as vandalism hardly seems sufficient to make something fall outside of the realm of art. After all, imagine a state in which music was a criminal act and labeled as a vandalism of the public sound space. It would hardly follow that music would thus cease to be art. As such, this objection fails.…
Ego. Is it virtuous to have an ego or is it better to be humble, modest, selfless? In today’s world, ego is an insult to plenty of humans, but ego has so much beauty behind it. Ego can create leaders, inventors, revolutionaries, so why is there such a stigma to ego? Prometheus found the advantage of ego.…
