The Impact of the French Revolution From the fall of the Bastille to the Reign of Terror, the events that occurred during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars of France impacted Europe in outstanding ways, creating social and political changes that could not be reversed. The Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars of France were a great impact on world history because it awakened nationalism, it brought forth stronger anti-slavery sentiments, and caused all European monarchs to seek peaceful relations. To start off, the French Revolution had a great impact on Europe because it awakened nationalism throughout the continent. Before the revolution, leaders of the countries in Europe spent their time dealing with the issues concerning their family, and the power their family possessed. The leaders’ allegiance was to the family power and not to any nation in particular. For instance, the Austrian royal family ruled not just Austria, but also Spain and Holland. However, after the French Revolution and Louis XVI and his wife were executed, leaders realized that their lives and countries were in danger, and they had to change their outlook on international politics. As a result, the policies of the ruling class became more focused on nationalism, resulting in bonds of shared languages, customs, history, and cultural development. Another lasting effect of the French Revolution was the worldwide movement towards the abolition of slavery. Prior to the French Revolution, slavery was looked upon as an unchangeable part of society. Even so, because the French Revolution caused so many wars in many parts of the world, the slaves found opportunities to revolt.
