THE FUTURE OF THE TRADE UNIONS
Introduction
In this assignment it has been asked to discuss the future of the trade union movement in the 21st century in both the public and private sector in the UK.
The report will be developed with both primary research as interviews and secondary research which involves websites, leaflets and journals. From the collected research it would be able to construct a reflective report on the history, how the operate today and the hopes that trade unions have to be able to progress in the future and continue to support and advise not only workers, but also communities and people in need.
Trade unions are independent organization which represents worker to their employer (tuc.org.uk). The trade unions exist for many reason important issues, but one of the main reasons of the intention of Trade Unions is to support those individual workers who has a little chance of influencing his or her problems at their working environment, although by joining with other colleagues or workers there is a faithful chance that they would have voice and also influence. All job and industry are protected by trade unions. There are 85 Trade Unions in the United Kingdom which cover all different kind of sectors: “UNIFI” for example which stand for Union for Finance. Staff that works in financial environments such as working as an accountant or Investment Banker is being covered by this Trade Union. There is also the “NUJ” which stand for (National Union of Journalism). Many other unions are also supporting people by gender, ethnic background and religion in different sectors.
One of the biggest unions is the “TGWU” which stand for Transport and General worker union representing people which are working in a range of different occupation and industry inside both the private and public sectors (www.tuc.org.uk).
The TUC (trade union congress) is a national trade union centre.
