In the memoir The Glass Castleby Jeanette Walls the parenting style most exemplified by Rex and Rose Mary Walls is permissive.
They are permissive, because “as an indulgent parents, have few demands to make of their children”.
“We climbed under the fence and kneed around Dad while he petted the cheetah… The cheetah licked my palm his toungue warm and rough, like sand paper in hot water.”
This quote symbolizing that the Walls kids can do everything no matter it is good or bad, safe or eathly. Even their Dad allows and lets them do it.

    Independence is shown in Walls at a very young age, doing things such as cooking at the age of three. This is shown in the following quote “I felt a blaze of heat on my right side. I turned to see where it was coming from and realized my dress was on fire.     Throughout the story, Walls uses astounding imagery to describe her family’s living conditions which helps the reader understand the family’s severe levels of poverty and disorder. In the winter, life on Little Hobart Street for the Walls was depressing due to the dreary weather. While sitting together in front of the stove and cuddling up in big blankets to try and stay warm, Walls states that the difference between the temperature inside and outside was only a few degrees.
