The good and bad side of Gollum
Tree Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Rings to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
You’re full of wickedness and mischief, Gollum.
Most people see Gollum as an evil creature who lies and deceives to get his precious back. Next to his evil side he is also kind and helpful to Frodo and Sam. But what captures his personality the best? This is why I state that Gollum has a positive and negative influence on the Fellowship.

Gollum helps Frodo and Sam to get into Mordor.
When Frodo and Sam meet Gollum for the first time he tries to take the precious from Frodo but when he is calmed down Frodo and Sam decide that they won’t kill him, because they need him to show them the way into Mordor. Frodo beliefs that Gollum has a good and that he is willing to help them.
““You will have to come with us, that’s all, while we keep an eye on you. But you must help us, if you can. One good turn deserves another. “Yess, yes indeed,” said Gollum sitting up. “Nice hobbits! We will come with them. Find them safe paths in the dark, yes we will. And where are they going in these cold hard lands, we wonders, yes we wonders?””
The Black Gate to Mordor is closed so Gollum offers to show Frodo and Sam the only other way into Mordor witch almost nobody knows about. But when they meet Faramir he warns them that Gollum is lying about the passage to get to Mordor and that they are doomed to die.
“There is another way. O yes indeed there is. Another way, darker, more difficult to find, more secret. But Sméagol knows it. Let Sméagol show you!”

Gollum tries to trick Frodo and Sam in order to get his precious back.
Because Gollum is loyal to Frodo and Sam they start to trust him, but when Gollum

This quotation is said by the narrator after Bilbo Baggins escape from the goblins in the other edge of the Mystery mountain. The quotation is important in revealing Bilbo´s cowardly and loyalty to his friends. Throughout the story, At the Pitt-Rivers, the narrator analyses a “couple” in the museum. He observes the way the couple act around each other and how they communicate. When the narrator first spots the young woman, he observes her and her physical appearance: “The girl was definitely not attractive … she hadn’t got a nice figure; her legs were kind of dumpy and she didn’t have pretty hair or anything like that” (Lively 24). Right off the bat, the narrator judges the woman for not being attractive whatsoever. However, the narrator goes on for being misconstrued: “She still wasn’t pretty, but she had the most beautiful expression I’ve ever seen in my life” (Lively 25). The narrator is stating how, even though this woman may be unattractive, she has the most beautiful expression ever. Later on, the narrator realizes that the reason why she lights up so much and gives off this beautiful array of expression, is because of the man she is with. At this point, the narrator recognizes that the man may be in a relationship with the woman and eventually concludes that they are.…

His past: his "Took" side, repressions, adventures - abnormal hobbit life. Impressed by Gandalf's work.…

With an badly injured Thorin with Bilbo by his side. “‘ No said Thorin ‘there is more in you of good than you know, child of kindly waste. Some courage and some wisdom blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above gold, it would be a merrier world.” (288) Bilbo is audacious because he is uses his courage to a be daring and bold . In The Hobbit he shows the dwarves and especially Thorin that he is a good asset to the team. The fact that Thorin said that Bilbo had ‘some courage and some wisdom’ its shows that Bilbo has an effect on other characters. Bilbo had to prove himself that he was a good add on to the journey. And he did he proved that he could handle himself and Thorin recognised- that. ‘There is more in you of good’ shows that his good character outweighs his bad qualities.
